It is very good news that Chevy was able to move a lot of Silverados but I hope GM doesn't think this means they should slow down their investment in building GREAT cars.
Unfortunately, development funds have already been diverted to Incentive Development Department.

While I would expect the pick up market will exist for the forseeable future, I bet other large vehicles did not experienced the same revival. Do you think a lot of Tahoes, Suburbans and Avalanches were sold? The over-under on Hummers is probaby 1200.
Oh, dont worry GM will always build GREAT cars, the best.

i drive 8 miles to work, not every day, i split time with a coworker. but for this example, we'll say i drive everyday, AND we'll say i drive 10 miles.

so, we'll say 10 x 5 x 2 = 100 miles a week.

100 x 4 = 400

400 x 12 = 4800 miles a year. we'll round up to 5500 miles per year- say maybe i go on vacation or something.

5500 miles / 10 mpg (pretty large underestimate as well, even my truck does better than that) = 550 gallons

550 gallons x $4 (which gas is lower than right now) = $2200 a year.
550 gallons x $5 = $2750 a year

so we'll say at most, $3000 a year.

that is not a lot of money at all- i lose over 4 times that to taxes and other deductions out of my paycheck every year- especially if it means not driving a crappy tincan of an econo car. and this is with quite a few overestimates as well.

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado

Well, I drive almost 80 miles roundtrip/day on the days I work...so you can see why my GTO is strictly a weekend/play car and I drive my little Mazda or ride my motorcycle to work. 15-18 mpg just isn't going to work for me.

Last I checked today, gas is still $3.75/gal here...down from the $4.15/gal it was awhile ago, but nowhere near $3/gal yet...and I seriously doubt it will get there. OPEC has gotten spoiled with the price they've been getting for oil, and I'm sure a production cut is just around the corner...well, either that or some Arab Sheik will sneeze and a barrel of oil will jump up $20.

However, I'm sure the majority of August's Silverado buyers did so because of the incentives and the employee discount...let's see how many Silverados are sold come October/November/December, when employee pricing is nowhere to be found.

$3 a gallon is about where gasoline should be if you allow for inflation and the amount the state and federal fuel taxes have been raised the last 50 years. the libs were hoping for $8-$10 a gallon prices so a lot of people would have to move from the suburbs back into the liberal run crime infested cities to be close to their jobs and pull the libs fat out of the fire caused by the fact all the tax payers have left the cities.

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado

Well i believe when people get used to the higher petrol price (which is a reasonable price) they will get back into the trend of buying big trucks
