Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
Unless you drive a lot, $4 gas is just not the end of the world. Prices are coming back to earth now who knows, $3 gas maybe only a few months away.

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
I know at least some of these must have gone to rental fleets - saw several of them at Enterprise when I was renting - in fact the only vehicles they had left. I reserved a mid size sedan, but instead was handed the keys to a brand new 2009 Silverado Crew Cab LT - very first person to rent it - 100 miles on the odometer. GREAT TRUCK. I couldn't believe it was a Chevy - the build quality felt better than many Toyotas. I didn't want to return it - and after driving it for a few days, had me seriously considering trading in my Trailblazer on one.

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
i really doubt their being sold at a loss, obviously they are not makeing as much profit as they would have liked to. either way at least they are moveing some metal which is a good thing when you cant shut your factories down without haveing to still pay your workers.

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
When will we learn that huge behemoths like the Silverado will help push gasoline prices well above $4/gal. once again? The movement to cars over the last 6 months is has helped push the price down to current levels. I would be much happier if GM sold 56 000 Malibus last month.

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
The construction people will need trucks again! If anyone has ever worked in construction, you there is one constant that everyone must realized, construction workers do not know how to take care of their trucks! So once the housing issues resolve and pickup, their will be plenty of companies that will need to restock their fleet and plenty of individuals that will need to replace their trashed trucks. Give it another year and a half and the trucks will sell again.

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
I drove through the lot of my local Chevy dealer earlier this morning. It was pretty bare of both trucks and cars, IMO. They did have six 4 cylinder Malabus off to one side.
The local Dodge dealer, on the other hand, has a lot of '08 Rams crowding up the place. If I had the choice to own one of the dealerships, I think I'd go with the Chevy place. Better to have vehicles in high demand.

The Silveado is a great truck.
I highly recommend it to everyone looking at full sized trucks.

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
It is very good news that Chevy was able to move a lot of Silverados but I hope GM doesn't think this means they should slow down their investment in building GREAT cars.
While I would expect the pick up market will exist for the forseeable future, I bet other large vehicles did not experienced the same revival. Do you think a lot of Tahoes, Suburbans and Avalanches were sold? The over-under on Hummers is probaby 1200.
