Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
"When gas prices approached and then topped the $4 mark earlier this year, truck and SUV buyers headed for the hills – presumably to never be seen again. But a funny thing happened between June and August, and it might have been just enough to lure potential truck buyers out of the holes they were hiding in: Gas prices tumbled by about 40 cents.
Believe it or not, the best-selling car in August wasn’t a four-cylinder economy car. And it wasn’t even from Toyota or Honda. It was the Chevrolet Silverado with 55,765 sales." http://www.leftlanenews.com/falling-...uck-sales.html

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
People TALK about the price of gas but when push comes to shove, they don't really mean it.
Big will always be in, so long as gas is below $7 US per US Gallon, no matter what your friend Clyde says. Good on Silverado. |

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
Well that IS good news! I'm surprised! It could use a couple more months like that to finish out the year. ANy chance it will outsell the F-150 this year?
You might be right marinerbc... perhaps people will adjust to higher gas prices and get back to the same buying patterns as before. This could just be a bit of a lull before things stabilise again. 50,000+ units a month is pretty darn healthy for any vehicle!

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
Given that sales performance was directly tied to incentive value for the last month, what was the average incentive on a Silverado (absolute and relative to price)?

Well you can get approximately 9K off with rebates and the GMEP4E.

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
Amazing what a $5k rebate and employee pricing will do.
Put the same on a G5, and it'll be American's Best Selling Car. |

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
Funny that LaNeve would say such a thing and then also be a proponent of cutting back investment on the vehicle program.
There will always be a need for such vehicles in the market. GM should endeavor to develop a regular cadence to redesigning and re-engineering this platform. If the market shrinks, let the contraction in sales come out of Nissan's and Toyota's sales. It may mean that GM trims the number of FS trucks it offers (starting with the Escalade EXT?), but GM's offerings should always be fresh and appealing, especially in light of its present commanding position in this particular market. Commit to a broadly competent line-up for once, GM, and you will be rewarded with a river of black ink. Is that so hard to figure out? |

They are not being sold at a loss. Trust me. The Employee discount is covered by the dealers.

Re: Best Selling Car in August - Chevrolet Silverado
Poor dealers then. But at least they've cleared the inventory.
OTOH, can GM just tell dealers now sell at that discount, now that, at your own cost? Couldn't the dealers just move those vehicles before, giving the same discounts? I believe that nationwide promotions, such as Employee Pricing, need to be covered by GM in part. |
