Ed Peper to ZR1 detractors: "Bring it."
Posted Dec 21st 2007 7:15PM by Alex Nunez Filed under: Coupes, Sports/GTs, Etc., Supercars, Chevrolet, GM ![]() GM thinks that the Corvette ZR1 is pretty much the baddest machine on four wheels, period. This was driven home today in a post on the Fastlane Blog by Chevy general manager Ed Peper. Seeing him advocate his brand's (and GM's) flagship is far from surprising, and as he rattles off the car's positives, it seems like pretty standard-issue public relations fare. It's only as he wraps up that he seems to get a little exercised over some folks' habit of turning all Corvette-related conversations into pushroad vs. overhead-cam arguments. In response, he namechecks some very heavy hitters -- the Porsche 911 GT2, the Ferrari 599 GTB, and the Lambo LP640 -- as he casually pulls the gloves off, matter-of-factly stating that the ZR1 has a better power-to-weight ratio than all of them. Then, in his parting shot, he dons the brass knuckles and calls out any and all comers who would challenge the Corvette ZR1's abilities with two simple words: "Bring it." You know what it is when this kind of smack talk starts flying around? It's fun. And we haven't even heard from Lutz yet. [Source: GM Fastlane Blog] Gallery: 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 |

When youre sitting the the seat of the new ZR-1, you can say pretty much anything you want!

Has anyone read the comments on autoblog? They are really tough on GM... Some of these blogs bring out the worst in people.

Re: Autoblog.com - Ed Peper to ZR1 Detractors: "Bring It."
The Corvette is an awesome performer, a great buy, and a terrifically fast car. But will it have the magically telepathic steering and chassis of a 911? Will it make the hair on your neck stand up like Ferrari engine at redline? These intangibles are what keeps the Corvette out of the rare air of true exotics. And thats OK, you get what you pay for. The American way has been always been "bigger instead of better". Surgery milk chocolate vs flavorful, intense dark. $10 dollar thirty packs of High Life angel-pi$$ vs. a hoppie, full-bodied Pilsner Urquell. Mass produced, under-gunned, under-armored M4 Sherman tanks vs. state-of-the-art Tiger II's. And so on...
In summary, the Vette is a just a fast car, but those other cars are fine art.

20 years ago you might have gotten away with the "fine Art" nonsense but not these days..
Yes the steering of the new corvette is every bit as precise as the imports...and yes both the interior and the exhaust exceed the competition.. Take it for what its worth....but the latest corvettes are the "TOTAL PACKAGE" and priced well to boot.. Now if you prefer rear engine or midengine cars or awd sports cars...there are alternatives but the vette is the best of the best. JMO and I'm admittedly biased.

What? The majority of the comments are pro-Gm pro-vette. They are ranked high while the whiners are ranked low.

Good! I was talking about most of the GM stories they have on the site. What a nice car!

Extremely well put. In the end you get what you pay for. Those other cars are $200,000 for a good reason.

YES!! Thats who I want running Chevy!!
Calling out the big dogs. Call out the GTR, call out the Euro snobs, call them all out. Bring the pain!! Bring more power!! Bring the best that GM can do. Pushrod vs ohc, mid vs front engine, RWD vs AWD, bring all the detractors and all the doubts to bear when the ZR1 takes on the best the world can throw at it.
