OnStar 4G LTE, wireless charging and hands-free liftgate enhance new SUVs
DETROIT – New connectivity and convenience features are coming this fall to the recently launched 2015 Tahoe and Suburban, enhancing the redesigned SUVs and adding to the momentum of one of Chevrolet’s most successful launches this year.
The new features include OnStar 4G LTE with a standard built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless phone charging capability and a hands-free liftgate. All will be offered in vehicles produced starting in October.
“The 2015 Tahoe and Suburban have resonated with families who want maximum capability combined with comfort and efficiency,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Chevrolet Marketing. “These new technologies make Chevrolet’s class-leading full-size SUVs even more attractive as the go-to vehicles for active lifestyles.”
Chevrolet is the first and only car brand to bring built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi to cars, trucks and crossovers.
Year-over-year Tahoe sales jumped 51.5 percent in July. They’re up 18 percent for the year, with Suburban sales up more than 3 percent. Together they hold almost 50 percent of the segment and play an important role in Chevrolet’s success – and in General Motors’ profitability.
OnStar with 4G LTE with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot is standard on LT and LTZ models. It provides a mobile hub for drivers and passengers to stay connected. The hotspot is on whenever the vehicle is on and comes with a three-month/three gigabyte data trial (whichever comes first), after which the customer can purchase additional data.
The hands-free liftgate and wireless phone charging are included with the available Luxury Package on LT models and they’re standard on LTZ. The hands-free liftgate feature allows a customer with a keyless entry fob – and full hands – to open and close the liftgate by waving his or her foot under a sensor beneath the rear fascia.
With the wireless phone charging feature, a magnetic inductive charging system allows users to simply place their phone on a small mat in the vehicle, where it wirelessly charges.
I guess Ford wasn't crazy to offer it on their products after all...monkey see monkey do?
BTW...easter egg for those interested...anyone notice something different about that Tahoe the attractive blonde is sticking her foot under? I'll give you a hint...Z...7...1

I want to know how the front end looks! gah! If anything, it will probably make for the best looking of the Tahoe/Suburban family, just like every other Z71 version, be it GMT-800 or my favorite, the GMT-900. Only thing I do know is the ridiculous ground hugging air dam is not present on the Z71 for the K2XX versions. It would be interesting to see if GMC has been toying with an All Terrain version of Yukon/XL.
There was something on the news recently about that, they said the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Cadillac Escalade were the most hackable cars out there among others. And in some instances, it allows the hacker complete control over the brakes and engine of the vehicles tested..
Z71 is a sham on the new trucks and SUV's. If they still come with a higher capacity air filter box, that might the only plus. Also the new SUV's have the worst approach and departure angles of any of the previous ones. I imagine the trucks are right there too. If you want a wagon with a higher seating position that can tow and haul a good amount of things, this is your answer, since nearly no one builds wagons any more.
Win win a very nice SUV's for those that want it, WIFI sounds great would never use it 99% of the time in car personally, maybe it would come in handy on vacation for the odd 1%, but even the everybody normally supplies WIFI.
With just a 25 minute drive to work, l never have felt the urge to find out what somebody that l know had to eat for breakfast on Facebook or how drunk they got at the weekend whilst out driving.
I normally just open the tailgate first, then bring out the all luggage put it in the back. Not to sure if l would enjoy something like a sensor that might go wrong, pop open the door by mistake and lose all the cargo, parking sensors are not all that in heavy rain. Already have an adaptor that charges my smart phone next to the AUX jack.
Full details have yet to be announced, but the packages are expected to feature heavy-duty lifted suspension, skid plates, high-profile tires, roof racks and potentially a few body tweaks.
Seems about right. We put in a factory order 5 days ago for a suburban. so im guessing since these will not be produced until October, I will get the last 1 built with the non sensored liftgate and no 4glte wi-fi capabilities. I wonder if they will have a flash upgrade to offer the wi-fi in the pre October Suburbans?
