Back in February GMI reported that the 2012 Impala would be getting GM's revised 3.6-liter V-6 and a six-speed automatic. At the time of publication the exact power figures for the new powertrain were unclear, but according to GM's 2012 order guide the new mill will produce 302-horsepower.
The current Impala has been on the market since the 2006 model-year, making it very long in the tooth in terms of vehicle life cycles. Despite the longevity, the main change with the 2012 model-year is the new engine and transmission. According to the order guide the new engine will also produce 252 foot-pounds of torque, both ratings are achieved high in the rev range.
The new ratings make the 2012 Impala almost as powerful as the discontinued Impala SS model that had 303-horsepower thanks to a 5.3-liter Small Block V-8.
All 2012 Impalas will have the new 3.6-liter V-6 and six-speed as standard fare. The 2012 Buick LaCrosse is also slated to get the same revised 3.6-liter, however power figures have yet to be released for the Buick.
