2012 Impala Rated At 302 HP
It may be old, but the Impala is packing a new punch for 2012.

Back in February GMI reported that the 2012 Impala would be getting GM's revised 3.6-liter V-6 and a six-speed automatic. At the time of publication the exact power figures for the new powertrain were unclear, but according to GM's 2012 order guide the new mill will produce 302-horsepower.

The current Impala has been on the market since the 2006 model-year, making it very long in the tooth in terms of vehicle life cycles. Despite the longevity, the main change with the 2012 model-year is the new engine and transmission. According to the order guide the new engine will also produce 252 foot-pounds of torque, both ratings are achieved high in the rev range.

The new ratings make the 2012 Impala almost as powerful as the discontinued Impala SS model that had 303-horsepower thanks to a 5.3-liter Small Block V-8.

All 2012 Impalas will have the new 3.6-liter V-6 and six-speed as standard fare. The 2012 Buick LaCrosse is also slated to get the same revised 3.6-liter, however power figures have yet to be released for the Buick.

Nice! Will the current Malibu get the same engine?

Whatever it looks like the anti GM folks will hate it, the pro GM folks will say it's evolutionary.

I'm just going to wait to see it in person, maybe drive it, then judge it.

I wonder what kinda MPG it'll get? The old one got 29 Hwy, class leading.

The Charger does not develop 475hp at the rear wheels. Maybe 420-430 if you're lucky. Gotta knock ~ 15% off SAE (which is crankshaft rating) for driveline losses.

I'm more excited that the LaCrosse will likely be rated at 302 HP as well (if not more since it has a better chassis).

This car is turning into a sleeper! High horsepower in a non-descript wrapper. This is good.

Don't get your hopes up regarding the "refresh" of the Impala. Expect 2012 CTS like change which wasn't much either.

I'm kinda wondering if there are going to be different ratings for the FWD and AWD versions. I was also wondering if the CXL would get a lower rating while the CXS would get a higher power rating...but then I remembered that the trim levels were gone this year. Does that mean that all 3.6 equipped Lacrosse models get the CXS rear exhaust treatment?

With the 2012 LaCrosse you'll just pick the 2.4 eAssist or the 3.6L (same price for both). 3.6L will have the dual exhaust.
