Re: 2010 Equinox: Chevrolet's New Edge?
The problem with that is the Edge is a mid size crossover and the Vue is a compact crossover. Gm only has one compact and that is sad. Ford has 3, Chry has none. Honda has 2. Bring over that Chevy sold over seas.

Re: 2010 Equinox: Chevrolet's New Edge?
Any word if the 4 cylinder model will have available AWD, and if the AWD system will be capable of transferring more than 30% of the torque to the rear axle?
Since the Vue is supposed to do a 50/50 torque split, I presume Theta II will as well. I hate the fact that the 4 cyl Vue is FWD only, though it could be due to the implications of trying to move Vue's heroic mass with 169HP thru an AWD system. |

Re: 2010 Equinox: Chevrolet's New Edge?
Right. I have no problem with the Equinox growing a little (as long as it keeps the weight down) but now they need something to fill the slot below it. If they're targeting the Edge with the nox, then what goes against the Escape? They need another smaller crossover.

Re: 2010 Equinox: Chevrolet's New Edge?
By targeting the vehicles customers are currently buying are they not targeting the customers themselves. I don't think going after a Honda audience is a bad thing.

Back to the original topic. Yes on the 3.0, yes on the 3.6, yes on a DI 4 cylinder (I wasn't sure of the displacement), yes on the 3rd row option (think RAV4's third row seat). 6 speeds all around (I heard the possibility of a manual as well?). I was told the Chevy looks 'ok' and the GMC looks 'funky,' so we'll see where that takes us. |

Re: 2010 Equinox: Chevrolet's New Edge?
Right because the current Equinox is not compact or mid size, its somewhere in between ands thats probably why the sales have gone down because people look for compact and mid size, not a crossover in between. I mean people that are looking for a compact will not get it because it is too big. People looking for a mid size think it is too small.

Re: 2010 Equinox: Chevrolet's New Edge?
So now Chevrolet will have two midsize crossovers. One large, Traverse, one medium, Equinox. What will go against the CRV and Rav4 and to a lesser extent, Sportage? That's where the market is going in my opinion.
How about a 35 MPG small crossover?

EXACTLY ! Don't go bigger, go smaller. The 2009 Ford Escape is going to get super mileage with it's new 4-cylinder and 6-speed automatic. It will give CRV and RAV4 a good battle (it's the number one selling vehicle in its class in Canada). Where is Chevy (GM)? |

Re: 2010 Equinox: Chevrolet's New Edge?
GM won't be able to match the smoothness and comfort of the Edge, I'm thinking. They're not capable, espcially with a hand me down platform like the theta.

Re: 2010 Equinox: Chevrolet's New Edge?
So GM is targeting an SUV whose sales are now tanking due to fuel prices with their own SUV foil in a market that does not want more SUVs.
Brilliant! Rick should have announced yesterday that they were killing these new SUV programs, that they were pruning all the SUVs and trucks that cannabalize each other like the Outlook and most GMCs, and that they would sell the Beat, Cruze and prioritize more small cars for America. But he didn't. Is there any doubt left? |

Re: 2010 Equinox: Chevrolet's New Edge?
Agreed with everyone on the "smaller, not bigger" point.
The Edge is an overengineered pig, and is NOT a good target. Equinox should shrink and take on the Honda CRV with a 200hp I4, and a less-emphasized optional V6 for those who want it. The Escape is going to be remaining small when it morphs into the Kuga in the near future, and GM will be left without any competitor for it.
