Re: 2009 Corvette ZR1 Superthread!!

I like this quote from a UK site www.crash.net

"As usual with US performance cars, the price is enough to make you feel sick – it’s currently being quoted as ‘in the region of $100,000’, which is about £50,000. Enzo power and speed for the price of an M3..."

Re: 2009 Corvette ZR1 Superthread!!

I love what they did to the sidevents. The new styling makes the car look 100% better. I also love the wheels (the chrome version, not the boring machined ones). Very race car like! I even like the carbon fiber. Usually I think it looks tacky and unfinished when left unpainted, but for some reason I like the way it looks on the ZR1.

I'll have one in Victory Red please

Re: 2009 Corvette ZR1 Superthread!!

looks like this thing has a twin-screw setup for maximum power.there's more power to be found with this blower-setup,i'm sure of it.i hope this car will sell, and there will be a serious aftermarket following for it.i'm already dreaming, and yes i know $100-grand is a tad high for this type of hype, but man this is waaaay better than the Nissan GTR.And i'm sure the extra cash for this car is well worth every penny over the Nissan GTR.

What's going to be the torque on the ZR-1? Do you think too much torque will hurt its acceleration?

595 fp. As for torque hurting acceleration: read my upper post. But ther's still Traction Cotroll and Torque Management or a more sensetive (human) Foot.

I'm not big on the looks. It's rather garish. Which is probably the point, but I'm not a big fan of garish.

Can I have this engine in a Z06? Those look much better.

Re: 2009 Corvette ZR1 Superthread!!

Well, looks like they got smart with the intercooling system, unlike what they had set up on the ION RL and cousin, Cobalt SS. These were 4 pass intercooler systems from Lysholm (opcon) where it started at the top and passed through all four cores before exiting.

If I am looking at this right, the chilled intercooler fluid enters the middle, splits and then the two flows go through two cores each before exiting.

When they did that conversion on the racing Cobalt SS [this part is also on the Stage 3 kit(end plate)] it showed amazing improvements on the IAT2's.

Not exactly new, the Audi R8 has a window showing of it's engine.

I simply cannot wait for the trend of carbon fiber roofs to pass. Glorious car, except the roof makes you look like a ****, just like it does on an M3 and an M6.

Re: 2009 Corvette ZR1 Superthread!!

just like 430 sae bhp ls3 corvettes put down 394 whp, the 620 sae bhp zr1 will be making 650+ bhp. kenne bell's 2.4L twin screw sc maxes at 850 hp. the zr1 will max out slightly lower. the eaton blower maxes at 76% efficiency, and it eats a lot of hp.

a pair of GT3076R turbos would have put it at 700 hp with 10.5 psi, minimal lag, and boost management strategies to maximise acceleration - and higher average acceleration than the supercharger.

lightening the highest part of the car - the roof - is always a good thing. you can paint it if you like. it's not a fad, but a perk for high dollar sports cars.

Why?

The lower center of Gravity and Weight are more than enough to justify what ever you find distasteful.

I am look forward to Caddy's V sereis recieving such improvements.

Re: 2009 Corvette ZR1 Superthread!!

What's intriguing is that they had indeed tested a twin turbo version.
It didn't last longer than a week however before it literally went up in flames.

I always knew that vettes and near-engine turbos were a bad idea.

I expect to see the turbo'd ZR1's never step foot on a road track like their supercharged brethren will.
