Re: 2008 CTS vs 2008 STS
They like the STS more because it is larger and luxurious; better suited for a family than the CTS's sporting nature.

I too like the STS better. I prefer a softer ride with my luxury sedan. It seems the CTS is not luxurious enough or sporty enough.

Re: 2008 CTS vs 2008 STS
Recently rented a STS and yes it was the bottom end of the car, but was not real happy with it. A few items I was used to with the DTS were missing. Not to sure if I need A few more days with it or not, but it was just ok in a few areas.

Re: 2008 CTS vs 2008 STS
Thanks JLM and Happy New Year to you too.
I was kinda disappointed they chose the STS as I am hopelessly in love with the CTS. I am just going to assume that they have different priorities from me (I'm a batchelor who likes something more sporty). Redimpss, ca you tell us what was it about the STS you did not like? Cheers patrick |

Re: 2008 CTS vs 2008 STS
I drove an STS a few days back (had it for about 36 hours or so), and really enjoyed it, but there are some glaring faults that need to be addressed. As soon as I sat down, 3 things jumped out at me - 1) the headliner is crap - I mean, the headliner in my 82 cutlass was of higher quality. The headliner in Cobalts is of higher quality. And this is coming from a guy who's usually driving around a 2000 Pontiac Montana. 2) I finally understood what people mean when they say 'cheap plastic'. It just looks and feels cheap - hard to put a finger on why, but it is. 3) No texture on the steering wheel - this one sounds funny, but if you look at the wheel in person, there's no texture whatsoever on it - and it looks really odd. Really odd. And it also looks like it'll attract dirt and stains like crazy.
Other than that, it was a great car (I love adaptive cruise...), but I just couldn't understand how some of those issues have made it through on a premium car that's been around for how long now? |

Re: 2008 CTS vs 2008 STS
The CTS is definitely the better looking of the two. I just wonder why they picked the STS. Hopefully the next car that is above the CTS will be called the STS and Cadillac will phase out the DTS. Are the cars that much different in size? I know the CTS is to become the middle Caddy, so I was thinking they were about the same dimensions.

Re: 2008 CTS vs 2008 STS
I prefer the STS's looks over the CTS's. The front of the CTS is too much "in your face" for me. I also prefer the rear-end of the STS and its profile. I prefer the CTS's interior. Since I base my vehicle purchases on driveability and not interior space or I would purchase the CTS especially with the FE2 suspension. I am very disappointed that both vehicles are so heavy.

Re: 2008 CTS vs 2008 STS
The STS is the higher luxury vehicle between the two. That should give the nod to the STS right off the bat...
Its slightly bigger....more luxurious and more expensive. Both great cars. I just think the upcoming new Ultra V8 will be extending the differences even further.. (I've never been a big fan of the northstar V8 myself although I'm sure its a buttery smooth powerplant.)

Re: 2008 CTS vs 2008 STS
It's a matter of personal opinion ... having had two STS's ('06 and '08), I have thoroughly enjoyed them. I had a CTS prior to that - enjoyed it, but just felt like it was cramped.

Re: 2008 CTS vs 2008 STS
They gave it the old curse of, "if you like to buy American...", as if to say that Caddy still can't compete with imports. Ugh.

I would not put too much value in any opinion more than your own, if your are considering purchase. Everyone has their own subjective requirements that determine the value a particular car design offers to them. I have the Cadillac STS V8 with MRC and its style, design, advance features, elegant interior, Infotainment, Telemantics, performance, handling, ride quality, systems integration and comfort are simply superb in its segment, it is an absolutely wonderful premium midsize luxury sports sedan. The STS enhanced wheelbase alone provided the Cadillac suspension engineers an advantage to create a ride quality that is second to none in its segment. The powerful balance of the STS Northstar V8/STS-V (Northstar Supercharged) offer refined power with world class results. That said, the second generation CTS by all measures, I found in my limited seat time to be absolutely a stunning midsize luxury performance sports sedan. If fact, based on my limited experience, I was so impressed with the new CTS, I walked away simply saying, it only needs a few upgrades in suspension, such as MRC and a few added features such as HUD, Lane Warning/Blind Spot, Active Steering, V8 and leather wrapped interior and the new Cadillac CTS, could easily replace my current STS V8 with MRC. The new Cadillac CTS is an absolutely stunning luxury sports sedan and its style and design is the best execution of the Art and Science design theme of any sedan in Cadillac’s model line up today. There are some subjective attributes that the STS V8/STS-V offers me that have nothing to do with its design and that is its exclusiveness. In the end, I believe the new CTS line of products will be very popular for Cadillac and with that anticipated success, it will be less exclusive. But this takes nothing away from the superb attributes of the new Cadillac CTS and like many cars that capture the emotion of the luxury buyers, Cadillac’s new CTS has hit the mark. Opinions will always vary, that is the nature of things when it comes to luxury items and cars are no exception, for as many people that review the CTS there will be various opinions. But the only opinion that really counts is yours as the luxury buyer, all others offer nothing more than an academic voice, some that match to yours and others who do not. But they do not have your requirements and that is what matters most, your requirements. So, you have an opinion about the CTS, it is yours and as long as it is valid to you, it is right for you. Look forward to enjoying the ownership of Cadillac’s new CTS, it is a stellar luxury performance sedan, world class, period. JLM Last edited by jlmartin99 : 01-02-2008 at 01:39 PM. |

Re: 2008 CTS vs 2008 STS
I own an '08 CTS and I still find myself doing double takes of the STS especially in profile and rear 3/4 views. I wish they hadn't put the vent on the front fender though, looks kinda tacked on since it's obvious it wasn't designed with the car. Too much with the repeater light right near it. I do like the interior of my CTS Better though. Now if the STS has the Chinese "SLS" interior, that would change! I still can't understand why GM didn't use that interior. Heck, they could advertise the car on that aspect alone! Blows ANY bimmer out of the water, (but mine does too).
