Viper Recall Instructions: "Patience, perseverance and small hands are required.”

The New York Times

April 24, 2014

Article Quotes:

Nearly 3,700 owners of 2003-4 Dodge Vipers have been waiting 14 months for a recall intended to prevent the air bags from deploying without an accident. Chrysler is now ready to make the repair, but owners should hope the dealership has a mechanic with small hands.

It took 14 months because the automaker had to design and test new parts, Eric Mayne, a company spokesman, wrote in an email. Chrysler last month sent dealers 14 pages of instructions with 47 steps on how to install a jumper harness with a “control module filter circuit” to fix an electrical problem that could cause unintended air-bag deployment.

The guide shows how to disassemble the area around the dash, providing an interesting look at some of the Viper’s innards.

Instruction 26 details how to install the filter circuit harness, and that’s where small hands are required. A note says: “Installing the jumper harness and filter box into position is not an easy task. Patience, perseverance and small hands are required.”

You must be a shyster ambulance chaser looking to have their legal secretary file Form letter "Viper recall-x" to make some big bucks, for little or no work.

I grow weary of the professed concern for others by these snakes. It is believable as a politicians lament.

A large number (most??) of our politicians are attorneys. They're just another head on the same snake.

This seems to be the same issue that caused the recall of Jeep Libertys and Grand Cherokees. We have gotten the notice for our GC, but have yet to take it in. Apparently it took a long time to develop the parts and new wiring connectors, who knows. Toyota used a similar part, and recalled its vehicles as well.
