Re: VIDEO: Garage419 split-screens the ZR-1 and GT-R 'Ring laps

You can clearly see where the cars strengths are... like someone else said it looks like the driver of the ZR1 is a rough driver. But its still awesome how a RWD can take those corners almost as good as a AWD car! I still wish we could see the Auto from the CTS-V in the ZR1.. Like in the CTS-V the auto is faster then the manual.. maybe the same could be said about the ZR1!

Re: VIDEO: Garage419 split-screens the ZR-1 and GT-R 'Ring laps

He made that video after someone mentioned how the GTR was just as fast or faster than the ZR1 in the straights. Being that the ZR1 is 600lbs lighter and has about 150 more HP - this would be impossible unless the GTR was doctored. Test have shown that even the 505hp Z06 absolutely murders the GTR after 60mph...the ZR1 should annihilate it.

I'd take a good automatic with shift paddles on that track. It looks like their hands are REALLY busy on the wheel. Must be one heck of an adrenaline rush.

Re: VIDEO: Garage419 split-screens the ZR-1 and GT-R 'Ring laps

If you watch certain land marks on the side of the track, like bilboards and things like that, the GTR is about 3 sec's behind the ZR1,which is about the time gap. The ZR1 remains about 2 seconds or so througout the vid, on the last straight away the ZR1 pulls ahead, as it should.

Most notable is the bilboard at the end of the straight away. I paused it when the bilboard was able to be seen through the windshield. Thatwas about 6:59:12 while the GTR has it around 7:02:20.
GTR is slower, but not by much, and that leads me to belive that the GTR is either
1) underrated
2) a ringer
3) supernatural

That got all the posters on that site in a tizzy! Celebrating a Vette win makes you a biased fanboy.

Competition is good for the Corvette; it makes it earn its rightful title as a super supercar!

But the result is clear: the ZR-1 beat the GT-R in a comparison by a rather significant three seconds. Perhaps the V-Spec will beat the ZR-1, but for the moment, the nod goes to the 'Vette.

Funny that some would point to the price difference, too. In that sense, the GT-R shouldn't be compared to a Viper or most 911's. But, of course, since the GT-R beat those in a recent R&T comparison, that objection suddenly becomes silent in that instance.

Nonetheless, it's amusing to listen to fans of the [admittedly quite competent] GT-R whine.

Re: VIDEO: Garage419 split-screens the ZR-1 and GT-R 'Ring laps

i just like how the vettes video has the speed/rpm/time shown instead of just the time. it just says to me that 'hey we have nothing to hide.' now when the car comes out in production i hope a race driver gets to do another lap around the ring for a more accurate comparison. both cars are crazy fast but the vette just sounds so good.

That was just pure fun to watch.
My only 'gripe' is the video was so small.

I would love to see that at full screen. It could make you dizzy.

Man, that looked like fun....

Re: VIDEO: Garage419 split-screens the ZR-1 and GT-R 'Ring laps

Anyone noticed in what rpm range ZR1 was operating?
Most time on the straights when accelerating, even on Dottinger Hohe, engine rpm is ~ 5500.

638 hp * 5500/6500 = 540hp (effective)

Close-ratio DSG automatic likely to do better job here, but we can't see GT-R rpms on video.

More reason for a larger video screen size...
