the reason the Chrysler list is out is because it is public record in the bankruptcy case, till GM does the BK it is not on a public record

Re: GMI Dealer Closing List

If a dealer did not receive a letter/phone call that his franchise will not be renewed, wouldn't he announce it to everyone including his staff and the media about the good news so potential customers wouldn't be scared off from buying from him? Seems like dealers who won't confirm or deny they received the letter/phone call are the one who got the bad news.

No because the bad news isn't done. GM announced another 400+ letters would go out over the next 2 weeks so you'd look pretty bad annoucing you're safe and then getting one of the second wave letters. I think they'd be smart to comment to the media (since you know they are all getting phone calls) that they did not get a letter, but that is as far as anyone should take it.

Others are just keeping their mouth shut over respect for their competitors that are getting the shaft. Although the auto dealerships are pretty cutthroat on pricing, most dealers get along pretty well and understand how bad what GM is doing will hurt the individuals involved (in some cases) so they won't rub salt in the wounds.

That said, not all dealers will end up loosing everything. I found out our local GMC/Buick dealer got the letter (from one of the employees, so its not on the list since no media confirmation), and they are upset about it, but they are also the only import dealer in the area (Honda). I feel that they will do much better by forgetting about GM and focusing on Honda as they have a great franchise (not sure how they got it in such a small town) and without the distraction of pushing GM vehicles I think their Honda sales will skyrocket.

GM will loose on this deal though as many of this dealers GM customers won't go near the Chevy dealer in the same town so they'll end up in other makes.

Re: GMI Dealer Closing List

While we did not get the letter but we know of 7 other GM dealerships within about 100-150 miles of us somewhere in middle of USA getting the letter from what they told us. They are not on the mentioned list.

I will not name them as they wish to keep the information to themselves. We feel for them and their employees. I believe all of them will continue to operate as used vehicle business if they can't get it overturned.

Re: GMI Dealer Closing List

Thanks for putting this list together. I supply GM dealers and want to support them as best we can but also need to protect ourselves from closing shops.
Couple ques:
1) When people talk about 'rumored' closures, do you add them on the list or wait for more solid info?
2) When you add new names on the list do you put them on the bottom?

Thanks again for this list. Very sad to see the names though.

1:
Help GMI's List Grow: If you can CONFIRM a dealership that got a letter last week, please click here to send GMI an E-Mail about it! You MUST include either a link to a news article stating said dealership is closing OR some other applicable form of confirmation from a third party. Otherwise that dealership WILL NOT be put on our list.
2: Sorted by state, alphabetical by town in that state.

Re: GMI Dealer Closing List

Victor George in Michigan got hit hard. He lost his Chrysler Jeep franchise but also his Chevrolet franchise in Lapper, which replaced his Olds dealer when he lost it. So he is completely out of business. I can think of alot that will probably make that list between mid-Michigan and metro Detroit.

Michigan is in terrible shape as far as the economy, obviously. We were in a one state recession before the rest of the nation felt it. Now some economists are saying it might have bottomed out and will recover slowly, in a "U" shape turnaround by 2011 or so. But Michigan is exempt. We will stlll be in a one state recession due to automotive and not enough diversity of industries. They predict we could hit up to 17 to 20 percent unemployment.

Saturn of Bellevue - Bellevue, WA (my old workplace)
Saturn of Burlington - Burlington, WA (same owners)

I heard the Fox Group got letters on both of them.

Darryl Burke`s closing was in The Dunn Daily Record on Tuesday of this week. Doug Jones in Benson had the rest of their vehicles picked up last Wednesday. Bleecker Chevrolet/Pontiac/Buick in Dunn and Dorman Caddilac/GMC in Dunn had no comment.

Thanks. A lot of those dealers I see when driving through to/from I-95, or at least the signs. I'll have to search the websites of the local papers for info.

Re: Updating Regularly: GMI Dealer Closing List

heres another one---Harris Buick Pontiac GMC Whittier CA. (including Saturn).

Im not too sure if they officially received the letter.
The article says----

General Motors sent out notification letters to about 1,100 - or roughly 18 percent - of nearly 6,000 dealerships last week telling those dealers they were losing their franchise agreements.

But Greene said he decided to preempt the move and give up their franchise.

"We made our final decision in expectation of receiving the letter to be a little bit more orderly," he said.

sounds like they expected to get the letter--- and they gave up the franchise 1st... but no mention if the letter officially arrived.
