Updating Regularly: GMI Dealer Closing List
GMI staff is now keeping tabs on announced dealership closings, forming an official list.

Last week, on May 15th, it was D-Day for General Motors dealerships nationwide. General Motors has announced it wishes to cut just over 1,100 dealerships from their network. The criteria for the dealerships that got closing letters have been deemed not needed by GM. Such determination came from various factors, such as the dealership's customer service record, sales records, and profitability.

In the letter, GM told the dealerships that General Motors Corporation will not be renewing their contract in October 2010, meaning that dealership will be forced to close. However, GM is giving all letter-bearing dealerships 30 days to make their case and send any information to GM that may be helpful in changing their mind on closing said dealership.

Unlike Chrysler LLC, General Motors has opted to NOT publish a list of the dealerships it sent letters to last week. With that said, GMInsidenews and its members are working very hard to compile and ACCURATE list of the dealerships that received letters. We feel it is imperative to cover every angle of this story as the ramifications of this list stem well beyond Michigan and the Detroit area.

You MUST include either a link to a news article stating said dealership is closing OR some other applicable form of confirmation from a third party. Otherwise that dealership WILL NOT be put on our list.

Also, add Holiday Chevrolet of Farmington Hills, MI. They were on Channel 4 the day of the announcements and the owner said she was closing. I think that's official enough. She was on the news because she owned a Chrysler dealer that was closing too and got hit twice... bad luck.

This is ridiculous. Why all the speculation and secrecy?
GM just needs to put it out there and let the chips fall.

One of our local Dodge dealers already has a "everything must go" ad in the local paper.

Wonder if they are getting coop advertising help from Chrysler?

A good question to ask of GM also.

Thanks for compiling this list. Although its bad news, it's still newsworthy.

I'm curious if GM Canada will follow the same approach or if dealers will be notified under the bankruptcy.

As far as I know, I was told, that Dealerships that have already closed are included on the list. This includes dealerships that have closed in the last year.

For example.

Warren Westlund Buick - Pontiac - GMC, Seattle, WA (Closed doors on 3/2/2009) (http://www.westlundbpg.com/)

Bellevue Buick - Pontiac - GMC, Bellevue, WA (closed doors in 2008) (Website already deleted)

Gee Automotive (Buick, Pontiac, GMC, Chevrolet), West Seattle, WA (Closed in 2008 due to a lawsuit)

but they might include them on the list because they closed within the last year.

Not really bad luck. Holiday Chevrolet is MUCH weaker than other nearby dealers.
