UAW leaders to meet on Delphi Brett Clanton / The Detroit News The United Auto Workers will meet in Detroit Monday with their union officers from Delphi Corp., for an update on highly-secretive bailout talks between the bankrupt auto supplier, the union and General Motors Corp. The meeting will be the first of its kind since early December. UAW leaders at Delphi plants expect to hear that the three-way talks are progressing, but more work must be done. The gathering, though scheduled for weeks, will hold a special significance because Delphi has given the UAW until Feb. 17 to accept deep wage and benefit cuts for Delphi's 33,000 U.S. hourly workers. If the union does not agree to the concessions by that date, Delphi has threatened to ask the bankruptcy court to void its labor contracts in a move that could spur hourly workers to strike and could starve GM and other automakers of parts needed to make cars and trucks.
