You didn't finish the title of you thread, it should read:

Toyota overtakes Ford in Canada for the month of September.

Few things are as satisfying or amusing as catching misleading information...

"canadian and international news" seems quite relevant.

news about 2 import brands duking it out in canada.

Re: Toyota overtakes Ford in Canada for September

okay normally I'm not one to complain about this...but why the heck did this make it on the frontpage ticker? Seriously. I see it worth posting, it is definetly relevent to the industry, but it doesn't belong on the frontpage of a General Motors Inside News website....IMHO

again my mistake! (i seem to be smoking the wrong stuff)

it should have read

"if i remember rightly ford was overtaken by both honda and toyota in august 05 but only by a negligible amount".

the point to be noted is is that the imports are now almost on par with ford which is a long established "domestic" in canada.

dcx ford and toyota are more or less running equally in canada over the past 2 months or so.

Re: Toyota overtakes Ford in Canada for September

Maybe some of you rice fans can help me understand something: why do you appear to be rooting for American companies to lose market share? And I'm asking seriously.

Surely you understand that if American car makers sell fewer cars, they will fire more Americans. I'm sure you don't think that's a good thing, so I'm at a bit of a loss as to why you cheer so hard at each set back by the big 2 and a half.

I sincerely understand you love your imported cars, and we can all understand being devoted to a brand. But surely you want both to buy your import and have Americans working. So why not root for both companies? Or hope your favorite brand stays small and true to its roots? Or hope market share stays the same for everyone?

Doesn't GM do everything a great company is supposed to do? They take terrific care of their employees and retirees (I know, they do it too well), yet they still produce a quality product, and often do so for less then the competition, while still employing a million Americans.

Lord knows GM and Ford have made some big mistakes over the years. And certainly they are paying for them (and thensome). But your level of delight seems like more then good natured ribbing. We may all like an underdog, but don't you feel at all bad about taking delight in the slow collapse of one of America's biggest employers?

Again, I'm sincerely asking.

GM outsells Toyota by more than 2 to 1 (September sales in Canada)

From the article
GM 32,998
Toyota 15,341
Ford 15,127
Honda 11,577
Nissan 7,085
Mazda 7,630

So the headline can also read GM outsells Toyota by a more than 2 to 1 in September
This is afterall a GM site.

While we are at add Mazda to Ford since Ford does own Mazda.
So Ford's actual total is 22 757.

Ford does NOT own Mazda. Ford owns if I remember correctly, about 33% of the company, which isn't enough to include sales.
