Super rich may avoid super expensive cars due to bad image.

In these hard times even the super rich are changing their buying habits. Due to negative public perception of owning a car that is worth several houses. Many affluent customers are holding back purchases and keeping their money in their fat pockets. Bentleys solution to the problem, If folks that are worth 5 million dollars are shunning their products why not aim advertising at folks that have a net worth of at least 25 million dollars

I doubt that, I just saw a brand new murdered out Lamborghini Murcielago today. It was quite possibly the coolest car I have ever seen on the road.

Does this mean HondaRon won't be purchasing a new Accord after all?

Exactly.

This is why I always drive Bentleys instead of Rolls Royces.

I just hate being ostentatious.

Re: Super rich may avoid super expensive cars due to bad image.

Well, there may be some truth to this. This is part of the reason Cadillac quit building the V-16, and Duesenberg, Cord, Auburn, Pierce-Arrow, etc. went out of business in the '30s. It's not the whole reason, but many of the affluent buyers scaled back a bit during the depression.

Re: Super rich may avoid super expensive cars due to bad image.

it is all about image or why else would rich people back in the 70s buy a diesel caddy ?? they sure could afford the price of gasoline back then even at $1.80 a gallon. they wanted the common folk to think they were doing their part to save gasoline

Re: Super rich may avoid super expensive cars due to bad image.

Damn it. I'll just have to cancel my Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, Aston Martin One-77, Maybach 62, Bentley Brooklands and Bugatti Veyron 16/4.

Guess I'll just have to stick with the 1996 Silverado and 1990 Grand Marquis.

There's no justice.

Maybe they will start slumming in a Cadillac CTS.

Oh maybe that explains it? One of the yacht club members, who usually only buys limited edition very high end cars, surprised everyone with an Aston-Martin Vantage Coupe. Oh for considerate social appeal.

Rich is relative. Some of the cheapest people I have ever met are 7-figure millionaires. People from "old money" typically don't have as much of a need to be pretenscious

Exactly! Most rich people end up getting rich by them laying their own pathway to success. A person can't get rich by letting people tell them what's the "thing to do".

I just repainted the Trailblazer with one of those new "miracle" paints I found on the internet. It made the TB look like a HHR and my neighbors have started bringing us food baskets.

It's amazing how a little deception can change your image.

My father always told me... no one got rich by spending a lot of money.
