Re: Product Mix-ups Explained; 2009 Launch Time Line

I think having the Insignia US clone with Buick makes more sense than as a Aura, given GM's need to extract as much profit per car these days having it as a Buick would allow them to price the car higher than as a Saturn, plus given Buicks luxury nature they could keep some of the high tech gizmo's this car has in Europe, plus given that there is much more Buick franchises than Saturn theres more potential sales for the car.

I think this car, depending how GM does it for the US could be very important, it would give Buick some credibility to go with the Enclave and coudl go along way to proving that American cars can match it with the imports in the eyes of Americans.

Re: Product Mix-ups Explained; 2009 Launch Time Line

The only thing that kind of puzzles me is, the Chevy website is showing the 2011 Cruze NOW. It's kind of early, in my opinion. GEEZ, the Buick website is still not updated from 2008 info, yet Chevy is showing the Cruze already. The Cruze looks like it should be out now, it's nice looking, but will it be competitive in 2011? I would like to see it out next year, as a 2010, not 2011.

I don't see what the point of this thread is. Almost every other thread over the last 4 days leaves me to believe that GM will be out of business by January or February.

Me too. Oh well, I'm going to wait anyway to see if GM file BK.
If so, I won't be buying anyway.

Sad, sad times for GM.

What about the long-anticipated game changer, the Pontiac G-3?
Cheers,

truthfully the next Aura should have the Insignia interior IN TACT IN ALL forms. But I think an exterior shape that is a nice modern evolution of the current Aura would make more sense. Something with broader shoulders and more defined shape than the Insignia.

Re: Product Mix-ups Explained; 2009 Launch Time Line

Only two of the six vehicles displayed on the "grid" will be made in the USA. The two Chevrolets displayed will be manufactured in Canada - but Chevrolet advertises "An American Revolution!"

Toyota and Honda continue to make more vehicles in the USA.

GM wants the US taxpayers to "bail" them out with taxpayer funds - while they continue to send jobs and work out of the USA.

I am a long-time GM supporter and customer - my last car purchased was a 2008 Impala LTZ - made in Canada. The initial quality was poor and the air bag system malfunctioned with less than 1,000 miles on the car.

I think GM is in a death spiral - I can't believe I would ever see it.

Technicly you are wrong beause LaCrosse is not a slang word for ''masturbating'' as Crosse alone would be. In french La is an article wich cannot refer to masturbation if put in this sense: only in a full sentence could it possibly be applied as la crosse, if you are french you pretty much can imagine it, if not I will not give any exemple as it's quite a bit vulgar.

But Crosse as another sense in french slang, meaning to get screwed over and LaCrosse emans that the car you have baught has screwed you.

I know why you would think it has something to do with the slang for masturbation but the LA removes the possibility of understanding the name of the car this way for a french canadian (I am one).

No kidding. This article and all other future products posts should be prefaced with "If GM get money from the government to keep it alive..."

Sad but true.

Re: Product Mix-ups Explained; 2009 Launch Time Line

All the Astra needed was the 2.2L Ecotec Powertrain and the Sedan version. How freaking hard is that for GM to understand?

As for the Cobalt/Cruze 2010 is ridiculous. GM could just put in the 2.2L Ecotec for now and offer the 1.4 Turbo when it is ready. Keep the name Cobalt and it would sell very well, IMO. There is NO reason to wait and NO reason to change the name to Cruze. Wagoner is an amazing imbecile.

The Insignia should be built here as the new Buick Regal. LaCrosse is a dumb name and doesnt sell.

Saturn needs to be axed yesterday. Small dealer network, low sales. How much money is GM dumping into this brand and for what reason? Just use Opel designs for Buicks and Pontiacs.

Rick Wagoner has got to go, NOW.

Wagoner has nothing to do with the name or the engine selection. IF anything it would be Bob Lutz. But for the most part the name comes from marketing and the companies they hire to provide the census.

The market size for the GTO was an issue, as Canada's sports car market is less than 10% the size of the USA's, and didn't warrant the extra investment to change the car's structure. (if you look closely, however, Canadian and American G8's are slightly different behind the bumpers, to meet the previously different bumper laws)

Re: Product Mix-ups Explained; 2009 Launch Time Line

What about the Volt?

I bet GM is going to screw Epsilon II up, the way they did Zeta. For decades only Buick will get it, which means it'll get some good reviews here and there and very few sales. It should have been an Aura first and then a Buick. Higher prices for the Buick are not going to make up for the dismal sales that it'll have.

And what are the plans for NA Zeta? Camaro, that's it? All that retooling for one niche car?
