I'd have to say that the only benefit to an increase in oil prices would be that everyone is becoming aware that this is a limited resource, and we'd be screwed if the wells tapped dry tomorrow. The world would crash without oil, therefore, we need to ease out of this, and onto something else for 100 years, and start the cycle again. Hopefully I won't have to deal with a mess like this twice in my lifetime.
