Oil dealers tell Congress: It's time for action

A Washington state group of petroleum product dealers is asking its members to call Congress and demand regulation of oil futures markets.

The group, known as Washington Oil Marketers, says the price of oil could be cut by $25 to $30 a barrel if Congress would demand that traders be identified as if they prohibited insider trading in oil futures.

In North Bend, where the group met Thursday, the price of regular gas was about $4.44 a gallon - a price so high that gas station owner Bryan Wyrsch says he is selling about 1,000 fewer gallons of gas every day.

...

His group now believes oil-producing countries are secretly bidding on their own oil to keep prices high.

He wants Congress to act now.

Did you see the story about a U-Haul place in Washington? (can't recall the city right now) People are renting their big trucks, taking the fuel, then filling the tanks with water when they return it! Crazy times mate.

call me skeptical, how do you drive the truck back to the U-Haul place with water in the tank. If that were possible there would not be an oil problem to begin with.

Me, I watched this session on C-Span. Congressmen mostly are not serious. The Dems asked question that would justify more regulation, and prevent more drilling, Repulbicans on the other hand asked questions that would allow drilling, building of refineries and loosening of supplies.
You could tell where each panelist was politically. It was a shameful dog and pony show of partisans.

Well, I think the time has come to regulate the futures market EXACTLY LIKE the stock market. It's essentially the same thing! If I were a corrupt money grubbing person I would love this market due to the ease of insider trading, market manipulation, and total lack of legal review. If these same things were happening in stock trades then there would be thousands of people in prison right now. It is time for action by the leading governments to stop this RIGHT NOW! Sure, the Middle East won't want this but get the USA, Britain, Japan, etc. in on this and things will change.

Well, I got into an interesting discussion yesterday with a friend of mine pertaining to this type of "action". I'm no political nutcase or anything but what would stop the people from aborting the entire congress and initiating a "do over". What people don't realize is that this CAN be done with the will of the people. I believe that US citizens on all sides of the political system know that this congress does not work effectively and is not responsive to the rapid deterioration of our economic fabric. Sigh, who am I kidding.........it won't happen......

criminals never cease to amaze me. they're still cutting off catalytic convertors down here, and i've heard of a couple of instances now where people's fuel tanks were drilled, and the fuel drained out. what a sad state this country is in. the dishonesty and thievery is just un-freaking-believeable.

This makes sense to me....there are so many reasons oil is high and I believe this is the main driving force behind it. Greed is what tears society apart.

That's why it's one of the seven deadly sins.

its a shame that those crooks don't have a hand or finger chopped off for thievery... would stop this $hit in a heartbeat.

Thank GOD our second amendments rights are intact so I can shot the a-hole trying to drill my tank for gas or cut off my catalytic converter for the metal.

Desparate times call for some desparate measures.

Well, we live in a country where we can't execute child rapists so unfortunately punishments like this for thievery won't fly
