Shares in Fiat Chrysler fell more than 5 percent on Monday after Germany’s Bild newspaper reported that the carmaker could be banned from selling cars in Germany if evidence was found that it disregarded emissions control regulations.

The insult and attempt to go outside of normal Procedure here was properly handled by FCA.

Their 'Root' Certs are from the Italian Authority who has made clear in no uncertain terms that the German Authority should have contacted them first, and not demanded FCA show up 'first' to a German Authority.

And yes, they have their own Italian Retest and on going Process with all this.

FCA recently was rechecked - and passed.

Yes VW is getting royally screwed in the USA and yes, the push back will involve US Brands in Europe and their Parents - including Ford, but you have to do it right.

----

Meanwhile the other leg hoves into view and with it the other big ass boot.

Germany to retest 30 cars showing 'inexplicably high' CO2 levels.
More sanitized and spun 'information' @ the link -

http://www.autonews.com/article/201...-30-cars-showing-inexplicably-high-co2-levels

And that........ plus all the epic other if they get to it or when they get to it.......... will be all about the Gassers, including many of those with Big Batteries.

(Maybe with some Euro 5 - early 6a FCA, Ford , GM , and oh yes, Toyota Diesels in the mix from time to time.....)

The Big Battery stuff also has some extra special brake and tire dust measurements .... but I digress.

Anyway, that's the great thing about RDE and related..... nowhere to hide all the AECDs and similar.

Now all we need is something like RDE for a 2.7 EB F150...... built, loaded and towing heavy up a big ass grade on a really tough day......starting with a little Altitude and the Circle ..... will complete.

The Law of Unintended Consequences will not be denied forever.

As some in and out of the Industry are going to find out eventually the hard - the real hard way.

Oh and then..... when the light bulb goes on that in fact you need to pay attention to those measuring everything as much as is practically possible...... and accounting for it qualitatively ..... you will have yet another round of this - for the Gassers.

Need to Outlaw or radically Reformulate and also re-purpose. 'Gasoline'........ but that will open other doors.....

Hm, I beg the difference. That's way too obvious for the German government to start bashing Fiat. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of car makers are using software to manipulate testing, emissions as well as fuel economy. Opel is under investigation too. Dutch TNO did a random sample test, and found out that all diesel cars (incl. Peugeot and Renault) emit way more NOx than their makers said they would, with the possible exception of BMW.

Why wasn't VW banned first? The article gives FCA's position: the German government should have approached the Italian government, not FCA directly. This is a massive attempt at deflection that I'd love to see backfire in their faces.

I agree with punishment for illegal actions, but they're going about it all wrong and look like petty children.

Two reasons - firstly VW isn't the biggest polluter in Europe, not squeaky clean but a lot less than many other brands - and secondly, VW are co-operating with the authorities, albeit without having any choice.

If FCA's cars are clean, legal and above-board, their chance to demostrate that is at the hearing!

Get your filthy paws off of me you damn, dirty Diesel!

I've made my opinion in another thread but, to be brief, in the US at least the responsible agencies have no technical idea of what they are regulating.

Uh ..... sigh.... not anywhere near Legitimate Defensive...... enough.

As many of the various disclosures concerning all the Evil Insanity with the various US Government as Sock Puppet 'promoted' Trade Agreements show.

This is actually all part of many other things ..... time 'Germany' did what's best for 'Germany' rather than for 'somethings' and 'someones' else.

Especially with regard to the dark ... fully dark Kabal intent on enslaving the Whole World - who is really behind all of this and everything else that matters.

Just like for here.

First thing to do is normalize Relations and Trade with Russia which never should have been polluted as it actually has been.

Also just like for here.

Wrong.... you are shaving some points again.

First of all, plenty of Opel Diesels ( in certain Markets ) from January 2014 forward at the very least, have for sure used / included LNT - as one would expect for 'early' Euro 6 compliance.

Don't remember for sure about before that date and or with regard to Euro 5'x' 'whenever' - but do think there was some other LNT for some of that somehow, though.

Second....and note the Date;

Opel Announces Details on Offensive with Fuel Consumption and Emissions

2016-03-29

Opel to publish WLTP test cycle based fuel consumption numbers, reflecting more everyday driving conditions as of June
From August onwards, Opel will implement improved SCR diesel applications in new vehicles – improvement towards RDE NOx specifications
Voluntary customer satisfaction field action for existing diesel cars with SCR technology from June onwards
Opel will implement SCR technology to entire Diesel-Fleet Starting as of 2018

Rüsselsheim. Opel has outlined details of its engineering initiative for more transparency, credibility and efficiency as announced last December. As of this summer, the company will take the voluntarily next step to improve transparency and meet future emission protocols. Starting with the new Opel Astra from June 2016 onwards, and in addition to the official fuel consumption and CO2 information, Opel will publish fuel consumption numbers, reflecting different driving behavior recorded under the WLTP test cycle. In addition, Opel will implement an initiative to improve NOx emissions on SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) diesel applications in new vehicles from August onwards. This is a voluntary and early intermediate step towards the so-called RDE (Real Driving Emissions) legislation that goes into effect in September 2017. Opel is offering to provide the regulatory authorities with the engine calibration strategies, which should serve as the basis for a proactive dialogue.

“We at Opel strongly believe that the industry has to regain trust by increasing the transparency with customers and authorities. Opel takes this step towards RDE to show it can be done”, said Opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann. “We announced in December in which direction we are going; now we are delivering the details. I ask the European Union as well as the EU member states and other European countries to accelerate alignment on test set-ups and test interpretations on real-driving-measurements to stop the existing uncertainty caused by test results that are hardly comparable.”

Increase of Transparency on Consumption: Opel steps towards WLTP Test Cycle

From the end of June 2016, and in addition to the official fuel consumption and CO2 information of Opel models, fuel consumption numbers recorded under the WLTP test cycle will be published, starting with the new Opel Astra. These figures, which will show a fuel consumption range with a low and a high number, will first be offered for the model year 2016 Astra and published on a dedicated Opel micro-website, creating more transparency. Figures determined under the WLTP test cycle will be published for further models later this year.

According to EU plans, the “New European Driving Cycle” (NEDC) will be replaced starting in 2017 with the more modern standard “Worldwide Harmonized Light Duty Vehicles Test Procedure” (WLTP). The WLTP is important to maintain standardized, reproducible and comparable results.

Less emissions for Euro 6 diesel engines: Opel moves towards RDE

As indicated in December, Opel is also taking action related to NOx emissions to improve Euro 6 diesel SCR engines in the direction of future RDE. RDE is the real driving emissions standard which supplements current test methods and measures a car’s emissions directly on the road.

Dr. Neumann emphasized: "I strongly believe that diesel technology will only continue to play a major role in Europe if the industry sticks to the path of continuous improvement. That is one of the reasons why we decided to implement SCR-Technology to the entire diesel fleet starting as of 2018. With this we do not only talk about a strategy of regaining trust, we also talk about a strategy to preserve the advantage of Europe’s automotive industry in diesel technology.”

The start of the implementation for this Euro 6 SCR improvement in new vehicles is currently scheduled for August 2016.

In addition, this activity also includes a voluntary customer satisfaction field action that will involve 57,000 Euro 6 SCR vehicles that are already on the road in Europe (Zafira Tourer, Insignia and Cascada). This activity will start in June 2016 already.
