and don't forget the Camaro
maybe the Camaro will get the MT COTY or the Canadian COTY ![]() Edit: for the 2009 NACOTY, for trucks it'll be the Ram but for cars: Challenger or the Mazda 6 Last edited by Stéphane Dumas : 09-22-2008 at 04:00 PM. |

F150 and Honda Pit
What I don't understand it why the Flex is a car and the Forrester is a truck. They need a special category for car based vans for the Traverses, Pilots, and every other wagon.

Re: North American Car and Truck of the Year contenders announced
I agree with you on the G8, and hope for the Traverse (built in Spring Hill, TN!), too, but it will probably be the RAM or F-150. It's cool how in America we can agree automobility and still disagree politically -- God bless the U.S.A.!!

Re: North American Car and Truck of the Year contenders announced
The Ram is using a suspension design introduced in trucks 8 years ago by the Chevy Avalanche! It's really not groundbreaking at all.
My pick in the "truck" category is the Chevy Traverse. It is best-in-class in every distinguishable way, from the class-leading 3.6DI V6 horsepower/fuel economy part, to the huge space in all 3 rows, the ease of entry with SmartSlide, performance AWD, and a great interior and exterior design that photos don't do justice. On top of all of that this thing can tow and haul best-in-class and it still has a nice car-like ride and handling. The journalists should have picked a lambda last year, but this is the time for them to redeem themselves with picking a vehicle that is already a class-leader that actually went out and improved itself for this year while the competition stood still. The "car" of the year should be either the CTS-V or Nissan GT-R. I'm partial to the V, because it so effortlessly whips the M's and AMG's of the world, and has an impeccable interior, refinement, and ride quality on top of that. However, the GT-R deserves to be in the conversation, because they've built a bad-fast AWD car that whips up on the Ferrari's and Lambos with better technology than they have at a much lower cost. It does have its share of weaknesses, but this is a game-changer in the supercar segment. In my opinion, besides the Saturn Vue 2Mode and the Mercedes BlueTec, there is no other cars that significantly change their segments, or in some cases, even lead their segments. Those two vehicles aren't very likely to dramatically change the industry anyway.

Re: North American Car and Truck of the Year contenders announced
I vote
Car: Cadillac CTS-V because it shows GM getting back in the game. Truck: Saturn Vue Hybrid (this is the 2 mode hybrid right?) If so, then I stand by my choice because it won't cost $50K and will be GM's first competitive hybrid system for a decent price.

I don't think the X6 will win.
The vehicles that win usually have a point. The X6 was designed "because they could."
