Agreed! Its funny but it goes too far if it requires explanation afterward.

Re: "New GM" Marketing Watch

The best by far is the Chevrolet one. It's perfect.

The Cadillac CTS/SRX launch one is cool, until they end promoting a product you can't buy for 10+ MONTHS. Sigh. That one has Bob Lutz (let's talk all day long about tomorrow products you CAN'T buy today) on it.

The Buick add is lame. It just makes it clear the Lacrosse is a Lexus clone with not history to back any claim up. Blah color choice too.

Anyhow, I don't see anything great here except the Chevrolet ad.

Re: "New GM" Marketing Watch

I like the new ads, however I really think they need to feature the interior (especially the dash and instruments) more as interior is a MAJOR area where GM is leaps and bounds over where they have been in the past and most people don't realize it. Case in point is the new Volkswagen CC commercial where they show a detailed view of the gauges/interior at night.

Re: "New GM" Marketing Watch

Why do they compare the tundra to the silverado for gas mileage? The ford f-150 is the truck that is spanking the silverado's fanny! Tundra sales aren't even close to silverado. Go after the leader in each catagory,be it american or asian!

It's still their goal of shattering perception.

Because the public perception is that Toyota & the other Asian companies get better gas mileage... GM must keep hitting home the message that their vehicles achieve better gas mileage than Toyota in every segment...The commercials are geared not only to truck buyers, but import buyers in general, and to all those who think GM builds nothing but gas guzzlers. Airing commercials saying they get better gas mileage than Ford does nothing to help them. Truck buyers are the most loyal bunch. Generally, Ford truck owners will continue to buy Fords, and Chevy truck owners will continue to buy Chevrolets... It's the import intenders that they want.

The Silverado and F-150 keep leap frogging each other with mileage estimates... The F-150's reign will be short lived... GM's not standing still on fuel mileage levels. It's great to see them both taking it to the imports...

Re: "New GM" Marketing Watch

The ad with the fuel comparisons still bothers me. They mislead you with the Cobalt. The real fuel economy is : MPG (city) 24
MPG (highway) 33
MPG (combined) 27 ..... That 37 mpg is for that crappy XFE model....again as I mentioned, most of you probably will never see one in the dealer or on the streets. I give credit to GM for FINALLY getting off your butts and coming out with aggressive marketing but this seems dishonest and leading.....This is about as good as that RETARDED commercial when they pick at Honda making lawnmowers......at least they had the creativity to branch out.....but I guess what is good for the General is good for the public......

This is no different than what car companies have been doing for years. You give the mileage of the best variant. The XFE does exist and sells well in my neck of the woods. Actually, according to a good friend who is a GM of a local dealer that owns both a Chevrolet and a P-B-G store, the Pontiac G5 XFE sold better than the Cobalt XFE here... Perhaps more Pontiac buyers would opt for the manual tranny... Who knows?

This is also very similar to how performance cars are sold. Not every variant is the performance king, but they are the ones that are advertised. You put your best foot forward... Simple as that. As long as you are not claiming something that is not true, there is no problem.

And let's be honest here, the Cobalt is on its last legs. The Cruze, with a heavily rumored 40 mpg is just around the corner. Advertising a small Chevy that gets better fuel mileage now is also laying the groundwork for the next generation... Six to eight months down the road.

I also agree about the Honda lawnmower segment. The commercial should have been re-edited to remove that part...
