Basketball Tournament; Sales Advertising Dollars Support Madness in 2011
    Posted on | March 17, 2011

March madness is here and the basketball tournament is making headlines. These headlines are just what advertising directors are looking forward to as advertisements and sales are big business during one of the biggest postseason events in all of sports.

The NCAA tournament is a significant money maker. CBS reported last year that the tournament brought in approximately 614 million in ad sales revenue during the 2010 NCAA division 1 men’s basketball tournament. Analysts are predicting that the tournament will bring in even more ad dollars this year. Americans will be tuning in and supporting the sponsor’s dollars. Of the major postseason spots, the NCAA Men’s basketball tournament brings in the second most dollars via ad money according to statistics posted by ad week. The NFL postseason is number one in ad dollars earned and the NBA playoffs ranks number three in ad dollars earned. CBS data reveals that during the 2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, the ad money earned approached 614 million dollars. March Madness is the second biggest stage in American sports which makes it one of the most lucrative sporting events on television. It is reported that General Motors will be making headlines during the tournament as it ranks first in the amount of money the company contributes to the tournament as a sponsor. March Madness begins today.

Without hyperbole, this March Madness nonsense would slip into the oblivion it so richly deserves.

    Bite your tongue.

Though I do wish the term "March Madness" would die a swift death.
