Lutz: Global warming a "total crock of ****

No one can ever accuse the man of being afraid to speak his mind --- and get headlines in the process. I'm glad he's on our side at least - and doing his best to repair GM's reputation and products around the globe.

Lutz: Global warming a "total crock of ****"

GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz is fully behind development of Chevrolet's aggressive Volt plug-in hybrid, but not for the same reasons as many environmentalists. Mr. Lutz — GM's go-to man for one-liners and candid opinion — had some choice words against the claim of global warming.

"Global warming is a total crock of ****,” Lutz told a group of mostly local journalists during a closed-door meeting at the Cacharel restaurant near Dallas and Fort Worth. "I'm a skeptic, not a denier … I’m motivated more by the desire to replace imported oil than by the CO2."

Don't give excuses to a group of customers (i.e. environmentalists in this case) not to buy your cars - that had to covered somewhere in marketing 101!!

Seriously, how can it be denied? I guess if you're 70+ years old, global warming may not bother you, especially in Michigan. Try living in North Carolina in July and see if global warming isn't real.

It's a fact. Like it or not, deny it or not. I guess all of our kids are supposed to live with 100 degree days on a regular basis. I'm a huge fan of GM, which is why comments like this annoy me.

Re: Lutz: Global warming a "total crock of ****

The only way he repairs GM's reputation is to force them to make top notch products. He's been doing fairly well there. Everytime he opens his mouth he seems to have a 50/50 chance of saying something outlandish or stupid.

I don't care why he wants to produce the Volt as long as we get to buy one in a couple of years. Lots of people want them for several reasons and it doesn't matter if we believe in global warming or not. If they make it they will sell lots of them and it will have a positive effect on the company.

And many more top scientists disagree. Has there ever been a period in time that the Earth has warmed this quickly, this fast?

The answer is "no."

I think the item of major contention if the warming (.5 degree over the last how many decades) is actually caused by man.

So what! Let those cry baby environmentalists go by a Prius if they're going to be offended by someone's personal opinon. To me, a comment like that shows that he is genuine, speaks his mind and is not a conformist. I would rather buy a car from someone like that than a person who tells everyone exactly what they want to hear. Way to go Bob!

Re: Lutz: Global warming a "total crock of ****

Global warming isn't completely a crock but the billions of dollars the world is wasting on stopping it is doing almost nothing and could be better used feeding the starving or cleaning up New Orleans.

That all said, I am not sure Bob was right to blurt that. Just more ammo for Toyota and green kool-aid drinkers that GM is anti-green.

you are right, in a way.

Global warming does happen, as does global cooling. Ever here of an ice age? How about the "mini ice age" that happened like 300 or 400 years ago when New York harbor froze.

The point is this. Is global warming cause by man, or is it part of the natural cycle of the Earth and it's relationship with the Sun and a slightly erratic orbit.

I believe that we may aggravate it ever so slightly, but warming would continue to happen without us. It already has, and will again.

That being said, Bob Lutz is the effing man!

BTW, I have been to NC, and SC in July, installing point of sale equipment in unairconditioned construction sites. It sux. But, Ohio is no picnic in july either. Almost as bad as the Carolinas.
