Lockout at Indian Toyota Plant

Lockout at Indian Toyota Plant
Source: The Hindu

BANGALORE: The management of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd. declined to participate in the conciliation meeting called on Monday by the Deputy Labour Commissioner, V. N. Hittanagi, to discuss and resolve the dispute between the workers' unions and the management over the dismissal of three workers at the company's Bidadi plant near here.

The management of the company had declared a lock-out from Sunday after workers struck work to protest the dismissal. The next round of conciliation meeting is slated to take place on January 12.

Re: toyota violates Human rights in India.

As much as I don't like Toyota, I don't really see where it says Toyota violated human rights/are racist. There is not enough info in the article to come to that conclusion. All I can see is that there is some strong disagreement, but no details as to what is really going on.

Re: toyota violates Human rights in India.

They locked them out. That means they are preventing them from working, not forcing them to work.

Re: toyota violates Human rights in India.

a lockout is a management tool in india!

it merely means that during times of labor unrest the managment shutters down a plant ie "locks out" the employees till such time as an amicable settlement is reached!

Re: toyota violates Human rights in India.

Toyota has a history of working aganist workers rights to organise. They fight it hard here in the US.
Toyota has also had disputes with civil rights activists in regards to how they have treated people of color here in the US.

I think its a mentality they bring from Japan on racial purity. A remnant of the WW II mentality.
Old habits die hard.

From what I've read, Toyota workers don't feel the need to organize. I remember reading an article about a year ago where Toyota workers said they are happy without unions, I just wish I remember where I read that.

Re: toyota violates Human rights in India.

Can somebody change the name of the thread? It's just wrong and misleading!

Anyway, from what I experienced here in Poland, Japanese mentality is quite racist in a specific way. Although you shouldn't generalize - people are different eveywhere.
