That has to be the most ridiculous analogy that I've read in a long time! Yep, that's right. I go into the local grocery store and a salesman walks up to me and says, "Hey, you'd look great with that 2% milk! That's a popular brand! You know, the assistant dairy manager that's on today is in a really good mood. I'll bet he'll work with us. I'll see what I can do for you. Are you willing to buy today?"

Anyone who pays sticker price for any vehicle is an absolute idiot, especially in these economic times. Like most, I actually research what each dealer makes on each vehicle I buy before I walk in the dealership door and, therefore, I have never paid near MSRP.

Ya see, there's this thing called the "Internet" and if you do some researchin' you can learn things about cars such as invoice price, rebates, incentives, dealer hold back, special financing, etc. Big words, I know, but these are all good things that will help you in the future actually get a good deal. Apparently you've been walking in to the dealership, looking at the sticker, drooling, and then asking if you can add to the sticker price things like poly-glycoat, rustproofing, Scotchguard, sound-deadening, and the extended warranty that lasts forever. I'm sure I've seen you there next to the salesman with the huge grin.
Please don't lecture me on how the sales process of a new vehicle works. I have managed a new vehicle dealership for 5 years. I have forgotten more about selling a vehicle then you will ever learn. But keep "researching" all your rebates/incentive/H/B/dealer cash and all that, that way when you come into a store the sales staff can run the other way saying "I am not dealing with that d***, he thinks your supposed to sell vehicles for nothing"

Five whole years in the biz, huh? Wow. Impressive. You're a pro! I feel...um...awed by your vast experience. You humble me, oh wise one. Would you please call me "kid"? That would be so cool!

So buyers who have learned about "rebates/incentive/H/B/dealer cash and all that" are d***s, huh? It's time you've had a reality check.

The reason you and your staff run the other way is because you are cowards. You fear an informed buyer who will see through your bullsh*t. You are one of the main reasons domestic sales have plummeted for years. Your heavy-handed, condescending sales approach has pushed buyers to the Asian and European dealerships for decades. Your misguided belief that every customer is a sucker is antiquated. You're obviously a dinosaur in this business, no matter what your chronological age is. Many of your counterparts have learned from their failures, but not you. Sure, you can screw a few hardworking people who don't know how to protect themselves from the nonsense you unethically pull on them such as doc fees, extended warranties, paint protector, fabric protector, rust proofing, sound deadening, etc. Your kind doesn't like to deal with me and the huge numbers of others like me because we are a threat to your immoral deeds.

Contrary to your assumptions, I don't believe that dealers make thousands and thousands of dollars from each vehicle they sell. I have bought numerous new cars from various dealers and, believe it or not, I have actually returned to the ones who treated me fairly, respectfully, and honestly. I am of the majority of car buyers who do their homework and shop wisely to find the best vehicle at a reasonable price. We understand completely that car sales is a business and that dealerships must make money to remain profitable and in business. We, the intelligent buyers, spot your kind in a heartbeat. You're still out there and easier than ever to identify because you've been left behind and don't even realize it. So, I'll continue to buy American cars as I've always done. But not from you or the few others out there like you.

And, if by some twist of fate I walk into your dealership, I'll know you immediately. You'll be the guy wearing the short sleeved shirt stained with yesterday's lunch, a cheap K-Mart tie, a white belt, a pair of tan rayon slacks, and scuffed white loafers. Your hair will be slick with VO5 and you'll have an uneven handlebar mustache and sideburns that are a bit too long and bushy. You'll approach me snapping your Doublemint gum grinning a huge, insincere smile, and you'll shake my hand a bit too much, and tell me that I've picked the right day to buy a car. You'll laugh a bit too hard and a bit too long. And I'll laugh quietly to myself as I listen to your line of total bullsh*t. Perhaps I'll leave right away.

Perhaps I'll play the game that you've invited me to play. So, I'll pretend that I really believe white is such a rare color that none of the other dealerships have it stock. I'll pretend that I really believe that the dealer-installed $500 decal package is worth it because it makes the car a special edition. I'll pretend that I really believe that the MSRP is the very best you can do. I'll pretend that I really believe that my new car will fall apart completely once the factory warranty expires and that I need the lifetime extended warranty for only $3500. I'll pretend that I really believe that acid rain will eat away the paint and metal in 5 years unless I opt for the polyglycoat paint sealant, which is a steal at only $995. And then when you think you've reeled me in, I'll shake my head and walk away in complete disgust. Why disgust? Because I know that your bullsh*t may work on the unsuspecting guy who walks in as I depart. The poor sap with only a high school education who works his ass off to make $35k a year swinging a hammer or pouring concrete. The honest and respectful man with a sweet wife and three young kids who'll believe you and buy your crappy, overpriced dealer add-ons. The gentleman with substantial debt who you'll stick with a 72 month note at 18.9% interest.

Or maybe not...

Have a beer and relax.

BTW, you've misspelled "definitely" in your sign off...
Pathetic...

While really not interested in getting into an argument on GMinsidnenews.com chat forum. I will concede that your point is valid, however you assumptions of me and the way our company does business are grossly overstated. We have never sold as BS paint sealant, fabric protection, ect as long as I have ever known. Our sales staff does not run from educated customers, educated customer are usually easier to deal with then the other. However, when individuals come into the dealership with the "gun" loaded and try and tell us how we are supposed to do our jobs, thats when I have problem.
Like I said not interested in arguing, I would certainly think both of us have more important things to do.
