Hybrid Talk: Big Auto Bandies the H Word

http://news.yahoo.com/s/bw/20060411/...20060407879124

True to the media's style...just in time for the expansion of domestic hybrid models...

I mild hybrid is better than no hybrid at all right? These groups really should focus on educating the general public and lobbying congress. The automakers aren't going to do what's best for anyone but their shareholders.

Yeah nevermind the EV-1, the E85 vehicles, the hydrogen technology, etc. etc. When will this anti-American sentiment ever be purged?

So, who are the bad guys again? If the environmentalcases want results to satisfy their political banter, why don't they build a hybrid themselves? Who says their not full of s***! Environment groups are lousy watchdogs, that's why I can't take them seriously. Besides, I don't care if my Hybrid pickup saves gas, I just want to use the 120V outlet for my electric chainsaw!!

I wanted to kill myself in Economics as our teacher talked about the auto industry and how again the Big Three are struggling in a time where gas prices are rising just like the 70s and 80s and how they aren't offering Hybrids. I just kept my mouth closed, didn't want to get into a car argument.

You should have said something just so the rest of the class didn't get a bunch of misleading crap...our education system at work...misleading our kids for the future of tomorrow!

Thank you !!!! I don't understand it, either. I live in Seattle, and you see the strangest things here. Toyotas, Nissans, Subarus in their thousands..........flying American flags on their side windows! Now, I'll never fault anyone for loving their country, let me be clear on that. But the thought of buying a car made by their fellow Americans never enters their heads! So many aren't willing to even consider a domestic vehicle. Just last week I was taking a friend and his wife to dinner (in my CTS), and his wife said: "This isn't bad. I can't remember the last time I was in an american car." It seems people are pre-conditioned to be prejudiced against domestic vehicles.

Megeebee, this reply begs to have one of the Toyota defenders here give us the speech and 10 page long rehash debate about how buying a Toyota is actually more patriotic and better for the country than buying a GM, and will lead to a society that is "Moving Forward." (This message brought to you by Toyota) :p

Dude! I feel your pain. In Marketing my professor is always bringing up The Big Three for some unsolicited hatin'. He asked the other day "What GM brands are safe right now?" (As far as [safe] from being sold off and killed ala Oldsmobile.) I raised my hand and said Saturn, guy says no, tells a few other people they answered wrong and says "Cadillac and Chevrolet are the only safe brands." What a tool I tell ya. Wouldn't even allow further discussion. This is the same professor mind you, that didn't shoot down a student's idea that GM should look to merge with Toyota or Honda.

Re: Hybrid Talk: Big Auto Bandies the H Word

Face it, I don't like bringing up politics but if you are Left-leaning politically and not in the UAW or similar Union, then you probably don't drive and don't want to drive a Domestic 80% of the time. It's like Jimmies Coffee Hut across from Starbucks. It's just not the IN thing for socially-responsible progressives.

There is no pride in American-owned businesses anymore, because corporations are the enemy. Unless the corporation is all fuzzy bunnies and green hybrids, like...."Toyota, Moving Forward".

No kidding, I remember my marketing professor esposing the greatest of Toyota while at the same time knocking the domestics, wierd since the domestics were doing quite well at the time with the height of the SUV boom and all. Toyota is a well run company I'll give him that but I find most marketing professors, hell most business professors just repeat what they read in Business Week or worse the paper. What was the line from co(ktail..."not from a hasbeen that can't hack it in the real world!
