Re: GM's hybrid intro schedule

They have to invent the batteries first. And GM does not consider the Volt a hybrid. GM considers it an electric vehicle with a range extending motor.

And why do they have a picture of the old Malibu in that graphic?

The graphis was probably made before pictures were available.

The technology has been invented, it is just isn't ready to handle GM's needs yet.

Re: GM's hybrid intro schedule

According to the chart, we should be seeing a two mode Yukon this year. Any rumors on mileage?

It's been rumored that fuel economy will increase by up to 25%, which would put it at around 26/27mpg hwy. However this figure may drop back down to 23 or 24mpg when the new EPA ratings are released for 08'. I hope I'm not jumping the gun here but has there been a timeline released for the plug-in hybrid yet?

Re: GM's hybrid intro schedule

Well usually you guys bash GM to much but I have to say that it is my turn to say that they do not seem to have a sense of urgency when it comes to fuel economy. They are getting the product side together and even the drive train part of the business but why not the fuel numbers. That is really why Toyota is surging ahead so fast. Come on GM pull some of the two-modes ahead and release the system in Cadillac’s at the same time as the Tahoe’s. They should have them on line this summer not December.

I hear what you are saying, but some things can't be rushed. If they put out a car with major problems, that would be disastrous. They have to do due diligence and be sure the powertrains are ready for the general public. That takes time. Throwing money at it can only do so much (assuming they have the extra money to throw).

They are behind because of bad planning/decisions from the old GM. It's unfortunate but true. The good news is they are finally making the needed changes.

Re: GM's hybrid intro schedule

I'd love to see GM step up and make the current BAS hybrid system standard on nearly everything (I mean apply the technology to all the various powertrains- not suggesting they put the BAS+Ecotec 4cyl in everything).

I wonder what kind of economy of scale would come into play that way. Hopefully the cost per car would come down when you're building hundreds of thousands of them, rather than just a couple thousand units.

Re: GM's hybrid intro schedule

Of GM's present and upcoming hybrids, the current VUE Green Line has quite good mileage for an SUV hybrid (although the main complaint for that is that it's too spartan, with no MPG meter for example), but the upcoming Aura has very poor mileage for a car hybrid. And of course the current pickup hybrids are barely worth mentioning.

They HAVE to make sure this thing is right because if it's not their name will be mud when it comes to hybrids.

I've heard nothing bad so far about their BAS system, so that's good.

Re: GM's hybrid intro schedule

They seem to have left out the AWD Vue plug-in for 2009.

We keep seeing the Saab biofuel hybrid concept so I hope maybe Geneva will bring some news about potential production. The zero mode electric RWD in addition to a two-mode bio turbo up front, short of the Volt, is an intriging system to me.

I'm not sure what fuel economy your talking about, but I will use mid size as the example. Sure Toyota as a little edge on economy. The 4cylinder Camry gets 24/33 and costs $20,000.00. This is the base model don't forget. The (old) Malibu LTZ this is the top model gets 22/32 and is $25,000.00. This has much more standard and available equipment and only trails by 2/1 respectively. As I said this is one example. So when the VUE, Aura, 900's & Malibu, not to mention other hybrids and alternative fuels are all tallied together I think GM's average will be well above Toyota's. Not to mention most of if not all Toyota's require premium fuel.

Re: GM's hybrid intro schedule

I thought there were two-mode hybrid versions of the Outlook and Acadia planned in that time frame? I don't see them listed.
