GM's Global Goals: Zeta for Caddy Confirmed; 700HP Vette!

You read it here at GMInsidenews first in our Rumor Mill, Now Jim Queen is confirming it. Cadillac will use Zeta. - Ming

GM's Global Goals: Automaker's international car lines get closer
By Paul Horrell
Motor Trend Magazine
2/22/07

Jim Queen, GM's VP of global product development, has told Motor Trend more about how GM's international car lines will continue to get closer.

He said GM's new Australian RWD platform will be used not just on the Pontiac G8 and Chevy Camaro, but as the basis for the next generation of Cadillacs.

In fact in GM's portfolio, the only large RWD car (not truck) not built on this platform will be the next Corvette and XLR.

Queen says the C7 Vette will stick will a naturally aspirated V8 and RWD (not AWD). But power will climb by another significant increment, up to around 700 horsepower. 'We're working hard to get that power onto the pavement,' Queen said, mentioning that weight and weight distribution are the keys.

The twinning of Opel and Saturn continues.

wow, they just threw the 700 out there. Insane! Can't wait!
This can only mean good things for the max HP for the XLR-V!

good news with the Twin-Top, that will be a great addition to the Saturn lineup.

700 horsepower is pretty wicked, but I wonder if he was referring to the BlueDevil/SS. I can't see a base Vette having that kind of power.

Re: GM's Global Goals: Zeta for Caddy Confirmed; 700HP C7

Wasn't zeta originally kinda derived from sigma? this to me only shows how simply amazing this platform must be.

So far for NA zeta:

1) G8
2) Camaro
3) Impala
4) GTO(almost a garuntee)
5) yet to be named RWD Buick
6) Cadillac

Thats just NA.....priced probably starting at 23-25K for the impala, 19-22K for Camaro, 25-30K for G8 and GTO, 30-38 for the Buick, 40+ for Caddy......

Re: GM's Global Goals: Zeta for Caddy Confirmed; 700HP Vette!

That's interesting, a sedan destined only for Eastern Europe and Brazil is making it's way to America? This can't be true!

Then again, no mention of the wagon. Disappointed a little bit, but that's life.

EDIT: BTW, the "unnamed RWD Buick" is the Statesman.

Re: GM's Global Goals: Zeta for Caddy Confirmed; 700HP Vette!

that is great news for that platform, and that is just the cars in NA, you still have Holden with many on that platform that will help keep the cost down, and 700hp that is insane!!! GM, please NO Corvette SS, ZR-1 there has never been an SS on the Corvette nameplate and the ZR-1 was a crazy car for its era of low horsepower sportscars

Heh, I wonder how they will spin that in the home state of Michigan. To my knowledge you can't register a vehicle for street use that has over 650 HP.

Assuming GM overrides what the Buick Dealers said. Lutz said it [statesman] was in the works, and the car was shown to Buick Dealers, and they had a hissy fit. So they put that on hold...

Remember the Buick dealers do not want RWD because they've been smoking that crackpipe

I hope they don't use the "Cheap" version of Zeta on Cadillacs across the board. At the very least, it needs to be a premium version.
I'm neutral on this until we get a clearer picture of where Cadillac is using Zeta.

Never heard of that law. Not saying it isnt true, michigan is weird like that sometimes. Though, if it is law, I know a few guys who are definately breaking it. One guy used to have a small window sticker saying "This car would get me executed in Kalifornia."

Though, 700hp is great, but there's gotta be a limit somewhere. Gotta imagine insurance on a 700hp production car would be insane.
