Re: GM will close four factories for either one or two weeks in January

I would totally buy a Solstice GXP right now - except that I rented one for a few days and my wife absolutely hated it. I loved that car, though.

Ford's market capitalization is $4 billion while GM's is $1.89 billion. Some analysts advise a "hold" for Ford stock while they say "sell" for GM stock. This is so surreal. They are both worth so much more absent the recent credit crunch.

Re: GM will close four factories for either one or two weeks in January

The reality of the market is that many people are upside down in their current loans or are in 72 month loans. All this does is stretch the buying cycle out until new buyers get back into the market. The credit crunch prohibits negative equity loans. What I fear is that when buyers are back in the market they will have learned to buy less car. Gm and the rest of the big three will be producing "premium" products, the bread and butter of the market will be Korean or Chinese.

Re: GM will close four factories for either one or two weeks in January

A friend inside told me last night Delta is scaleing way back and the news this morning stated Delta (Lambda triplets) and Lansing Grand River (Cadillac CTS CSX and STS) are about to cut way back and do temp shut downs until inventory makes more room.

Ya know I think GM should do heavy adverts and at the same time cut production drastically.

But yet again the actual final price of a new low end Cavilier or even a Impala
is STILL lower than a honda, toyoyo, and possibly a hundy!

Cavalier? They haven't built that in YEARS. I suspect that if the loan guarantees aren't set by the end of the week we may see a LOT more plant shut downs. They could shut the entire company down for the month of December to save money as they have lots of cars on the dealers lots.

Toyota shut their truck plants down for two months because they aren't selling.
