GM, Toyota very close in global sales.

Quote:
This seemed to bounce all around. First Toyota said they would release more detailed results by the end of the month. Then they said they would not release numbers more specific than 9.37, but then 9.366 leaked out and now it appears Toyota has admitted to that number (compared to GM's 9.369).

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. said Wednesday it sold 9,369,524 vehicles worldwide last year, making the global sales race with Toyota Motor Corp. too close to call.

I think GM will keep the sales lead in 2008, but they will lose more market share in the US.

Wow, that is amazingly close! It would be nice to see Toyota fall just behind for 2007.

Re: GM, Toyota very close in global sales.

A few months ago Automotive News decided that Toyota passed GM in 2006, because GM was counting sales in its total from a Chinese subsidiary where its ownership was well under 50 percent. Sounds like 2007 might also depend on whether those Chinese sales are included in GM's total, as GM is probably including them in this figure.

That would be hilarious if this is as close as they ever get.

I agree, some media outlets will start bitching about GM including this sales from here and there but they werent supposed to add them to the total

Re: Toyota fails to surpass GM

As a GM fan this is good news to me. However note the difference is only 3-4 thousand vehicles. Toyota has a good shot at doing it in '08.

Re: GM, Toyota very close in global sales.

Good I'm glad they won one more year. I have feeling this year however Toyota will win the top spot. Why on earth that many people buy boring cars is beyond me, but whatever.

Re: GM, Toyota very close in global sales.

Either way it's amazing for GM. I mean they still made tremendous cut backs on fleet sales so this means their product is in the proper hands, the customer!!

It would truly suck if GM let Toyota over take them over during their 100th Year! Personally, I would rather they loose money in 08 than loose the title in 08!
