Re: GM In Talks To Sell Truck Business To Isuzu

This sounds like a good idea to me. I have one question, can they throw in Hummer for a couple of billion more?

I don't believe this is that far removed from core business to have a short term gain (and I believe a long term loss) by selling it off. That, and Meduim Duty "know-how" may help them built better 2500HD's and 3500's which is most certainly core business.

Re: GM In Talks To Sell Truck Business To Isuzu

could this be a move to a wider sale to Isuzu? Could Isuzu purchase Hummer and maybe another division or two from GM? I think so. Isuzu just pulled out, by getting Hummer they have large GM base to base their trucks off of, and could even have a isuzu version of the volt that can be hummerized!!

It can't be any worse than brakes that won't stop squealing (with the dealer stating that "this is normal when the temperature approaches +10 C"), the driver's door gradually neglecting to line up with the rest of the body, a drivetrain that now waits close to two and a half seconds to react to a dramatic throttle input and anti-lock brakes that don't anti-lock. Blech!
Wow, really?? You must have the 6.0L as the throttle thing has been mentioned before and yeah for sure that would be aggravating but my 07 has been flawless. I'm still impressed how solid it is....sorry to hear about the issues, GM can't afford to have that right now (or dealers that blow cusotmers off...)!!

No -- the 4.8 with 3.42 gearing. Nothing outrageous at all, but it just keeps getting worse.

Assumed the 6.0 because the throttle delay is fairly well known on the vortecmax. Find a dealer that actually gives a crap and hopefully they can sort it out for you. Good luck.

The idea that you can sell your assets to profitability does not add up.

GM didn't learn that when they sold off Detroit Diesel, Allison Transmission, Terex, GMC Truck & Coach, Electro-Motive. Don't know how it would stop them now.

I've always got the belief that these maneuvers are somehow profitable to folks high up, and their underlying appeal is that they generate tax benefits for the company and force renegotiations of contracts within the old-line union divisions...

exactly. Why is it that GM cannot go after the export market just like Isuzu? Throw in a few diesels, 6 speed transmissions, cab foward designs? Why not? This is annoying.

Chevy actually sold medium duty trucks for Isuzu under the Chevy name. I wonder how it would be any different.

Any serious technology involved in this division? I can't think of any, so it should be good for them.

If it means vastly improving the current Colorado and Canyon, I'd say yes.

Very interesting thoughts! I for one would actually like to see this.. Isuzu is great at diesel engines and commercial trucks.

Probably many GM heavy truck employees would be happy to work for Isuzu and have stability in their careers.

Re: GM In Talks To Sell Truck Business To Isuzu

FYI I work at a GMC only dealer. We sell the whole line! First Isuzu does not manufacture the T series. GM does at the plant in Flint. Next this would be a great thing! Currently if we order a TopKick we may get it by Christmas, but dont hold your breath it will January but more than likely Feburary. Do you think companies want to wait that long for a truck???? NO! For what ever stupid reason, GM has only one shift at the MD plant. So we have NO MD's to sell. Smart huh! So in the mean time Ford is kicking our ass, along with International, Sterling, Freigthtliner, Hino who all bulid MD's. Next, years ago GM Isuzu formed a corp that managed the complete MD line. It basicly was run by Isuzu. They did a great job!. It was disovled last year. In this country Isuzu(GMC & Chevy badged also) is the leader in LCF's! The Blue Diamond truck is junk! We are all looking foward to Isuzu running the manufacturing end! OH we would still have TopKick & Kodiak, just made in a Isuzu run plant!

possible but then I also taught of another possibility: what if Isuzu buy some stakes/shares of GM? Something around 10-15% of GM share?
