GM Starts New Corporate Ad Campaign

Source: wsj - 04/11/06 - Page A13

This is the complete context of a GM ad in the Wall Street Journal, April 11, 2006:

Quote:

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON AT GM?

EVERYTHING.

We're working fast, making sweeping changes company-wide. Changes unprecedented in corporate America. We've worked with our UAW partners to cut healthcare costs by $15 billion. We've made tough decisions to restructure our workforce to become a trim, lean, fast organization.

We've reduced MSRPs on almost every new car and truck to ensure every driver gets the best value in America. We've injected our brands with amazing new products, launched to rave reviews.

Pontiac Solstice, Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Corvette Z06, Hummer H3, Saab 9-3 Convertible, Buick Lucerne, the new GMC Yukon and, coming soon, the Saturn VUE Green Line Hybrid.

We're building some of the best built cars and trucks on the road and we're working to earn your business, day in and day out.

That's the focus. And that's the mission.

At the global car company that's proud to be American.

Re: GM Starts New Corporate Ad Campaign

I still wish GM would grow some balls and brag a little bit. The success of the Tahoe/Yukon as far quality that has beat Toyota the last 3 years, the worlds best sports car money can buy! Net build process, a true American company, not a Japanese company playing American. I mean I would really go for the jugular right now. Also I would show the wind tunnel at the Tech center in every GM commercial. That thing is too cool, not to mention it's like over 50 years old and still working, that should say something about build quality.

I really like the other GM ad that is playing now with the mix of the great GM cars of old and the new models with the tag line "then the car leader....today the car, truck and SUV leader.....only GM".

I like it. It is a good start. I also love the tag-line, "At the global car company that's proud to be American" and hope they use it more.

Now, hopefully they will start being more aggressive about their accomplishments in technologies, designs, sales, and reliability. Past present and future.

Re: GM Starts New Corporate Ad Campaign

I actually hate how they have to inject the fact that they're AMERICAN YEAH! into every single one of their ad campaigns.

Yeah, we know you're American. We know. Really, we know.

AN AMERICAN REVOLUTION, yeah, okay. We get it.

Enough already.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a buttload of people out there that won't buy GM products just because of the psuedo-patriotic junk they force feed down our throats with every ad they run.

I don't know, I don't recall seeing any Toyota ads lately besides the new 07 Camry ad, which has none of this.

If the truth hurts, change your buying preferences.
The fact is, GM is making great products.
And to a far greater extent, it's your neighbors, real men and women in the U.S.A., Canada, and Mexico that are making great GM vehicles, as compared to other less truthful manufacturers.

I re-read your post a few times but I still can't make any sense of it.

Maybe you should stop talking about pickles and sombreros and just get to the point.

Re: GM Starts New Corporate Ad Campaign

I believe that's an IR commercial, and in this area GM still has preciously little to brag about, so perhaps the only thing they can say is that "they are working on it". They won't say they fired people in an ad, will they?

But GM needs to make good consumer (and B2B) ads too and stop promoting the darn "GM brand".
