Re: GM Shows 2009 Changes!

I'm happy to see the confirmation of the 5.3 for the 355s.

Very rarely are things like that in "software". The software might be different, but the main gain is usually in a change of engine design, gear ratios, or something like putting a plastic cover underneath the engine bay for better aerodynamics.

Ford did that for owners of 2006 Focus's...they revised the software in the 2007 Focus to get more MPG out of it, so they updated 2006's if the owner wanted it done.

In other words, it's not crazy.

Re: GM Shows 2009 Changes!

I wonder what the new radio head for the Malibu will look like......And as long as it will have Bluetooth I will be buying one.
I wanted to get the G8 when it came with Bluetooth but I live where it snows and RWD just won't do for me.
So as long as the Malibu gets Bluetooth I will be getting one.

Re: GM Shows 2009 Changes!

2009 SRX is a complete lame duck.
They couldn't even put the 290 or 304 HP DI 3.6 L in it,
much less the 6 speed with the V6.
A 4200lb SRX with 304 hp would have been a sweet little tourer.

Agreed. Hard to believe that stripper Century and Cutlass Ciera models had ABS standard in the mid-'90s but the flagship Chevrolet sedan in 2008 didn't.

3.9 is a combo aluminum head/iron block. I'm ridding my fleet of aluminum-engined cars.

Re: GM Shows 2009 Changes!

Amazing, GM really kills me, they really do. You people are satisfied with these changes. Here is what I expected.

- I thought we were getting a 6 speed Lucerne/DTS with the 3.6 DI engone
- I was told Car and Driver magazine stated we were getting a MCE G6, you can't tell me GM is going one more year with that center stack that needs a new radio and some brushed aluminum or something like that.
- What about the 3.6 DI in a Aura RL and Malibu SS ??
- What about a new dash in the STS, my god, if GM combined the dash of the SLS in China with the CTS dash, the STS would be awesome.

- Why can't they put the 6 speed in all of their cars including the Lucerne and Impala ? Why ? Why ?

- I am so tired of the Nav screen issue but we need more 2009 changes, I hope these changes will be expanded for 2009.

Come on GM, listen to the public !!! Come on GM !!!!
Come on GM !!!!

Re: GM Shows 2009 Changes!

It's good to see the Lucerne get a power boost with the 3.9L V6 but, it would have been better if it had the 3.6 that the cheaper Malibu and Aura have.

honestly if it was not for the new CAFE rule I think that GM would have put off giving other GMt-900s 6 speeds for a few moer years.

-The 6T70 + 3.6L does not fit on the G-Body platform that underpins the Lucerne and DTS, so it is impossible. Frankly, it doesn't matter to most of their target buyers...old people.

-G6 was never planned to get an MCE in 2009.

-I have heard tid-bits on a Malibu Sport coming in 2009 MY. It is likely still on, remember; not all of the 2009 changes are on that site yet! There will not be an Aura RL though. The all-new Aura comes out next year!
-The STS just got an MCE in 2008 MY, why do you suspect they would do it all again on a car that is about to die?

-At this point they have 6-speeds in most of the products that are going to get them. Actually, they have 6-speeds in more vehicles than most other manufacturers vehicles. Where is Honda and Toyota's 6-speed 4-cylinder Accord/Camry?

GM is listening more than you care to think. If they were not listening, we wouldn't be seeing Bluetooth go from being in one model...to damn-near every model in the stable just in one model year change. There are logical reasons behind a lot of the stuff you are complaining about. Rome wasn't built in a day, neither has the "new" GM.

What makes you think GM aspires to build a 4-speed and 6-speed transmission (when production costs will ultimately be very close) just because they didn't "want" to put the new 6-speed in the 900's?

Re: GM Shows 2009 Changes!

My statement was more sarcastic then anything because I feel that the 6 speeds should have been in the GMT-900s in the first year or atleast in the second year and the fact that they didn't really have much incentive to switch over from the 4 speeds to the 6 speeds (they need to tool up in order to produce the transmission in greater numbers which cost money).

Re: GM Shows 2009 Changes!

I do love that the Malubu and Aura are getting 6 speeds in the 4 cylinders. These are two awesome cars, I wish the Aura would sell more.

- NSAP, I understand when you said the 6 speed and 3.6 doesnt fit in the Lucerne, but why cant you put a 5 or a 6 speed in the Northstar ? The Avalon is for older people too and that vehicle has a 5 speed. Also, how many cars in the competition still have 4 speed automatics ? A 5 speed would be acceptable but a 4 speed is unacceptable.

- I read on this site that Car and Driver magazine said the G6 was getting a MCE. All this car really needs is a few interior refines. Maybe a little more brushed aluminum and the Corporate radio. Why would the Cobalt and G5 have the Corporate Radio but not the G6.

- YOu said the STS will be replaced, I heard that too but when. I love the exterior (its unique) and its a drivers car but the dash needs to look better for the price you pay for this car. its not horrible but could be better. Do you know why we didn't get the SLS chinese interior ?

It just bothers me that the competition does not have as many cars with dated technology. Honda and Toyota have none.
