Re: GM to reject foreign manufacturers, build own batteries

Don't start waiving your flags just yet -- The battery CELLS will be made abroad, where most Li-Ion batteries are made. The cells will be ASSEMBLED by GM into the T-packs that go into the car.

So, you see, the guts of the battery manufacturing will still be done overseas. See the article "Interview: CEO of Compact Power Inc. on Facility Requirements to Build the Volt’s Packs" on the following webpage:

This will turn out to be another Delphi where GM are depended on to hold their hands and bail them out in the future. In my opinion this company will also lag behind the rest of the world (in the future).

With a foreign manufacturer GM could at least either get the batteries cheaper because of labor costs and can dump them in favour of a better and more advanced product in the future.

GM must think long term and not base everything in north America........in most cases north American based GM arms have not been competitive and are struggling financially and technologically.

Great idea!
Let's also make batteries in California and export them to Japan.

Re: GM to reject foreign manufacturers, build own batteries

don't believe anything GM says. they are liars and willing to say anything to cover their situation regardless of the truth. ask dealers across America as they are dying on the vine. Red Ink Rick and Company are untrue and willing to let franchisees die a slow death for their own personal benefit, subjugating themselves to a higher power of bankster led perogatives.
