GM recalls 54k+ Trucks & SUV's

General Motors is recalling 54,686 trucks for faulty shifter cables and steering-column locks, according to filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2013 Cadillac Escalade; Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Tahoe, Suburban and Express; and GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL and Savana built from November through Dec. 18 are affected.

Either fractured shifter cables or broken steering-column locks can allow the shifter to move from park while the ignition is off or while the key is removed. The driver could also shift from park without first applying the brake or remove the key when the shifter is not in park. At worst, any of these scenarios could cause the truck to roll away.

Thats what happens when you move the shifter too far away from the transmission

You would think when you are trying to rebuild your reputation things like this would not happen. With all of the negative publicity that GM has been getting they need to make sure nothing like this never happens again. Every one involved need to be held accountable. That means from the CEO to the assembly person and let's not forget the suppliers.

It's built to GM specs and in most cases on GM tooling and it passes GM testing so even if it is made in China it is a quality GM part but it really seems like GM's standards have hit an all time low.

Or they are trying to use up inventory on the plant floor, build outs can get pretty greasy...

I can tell you the column is manufactured by Nexteer Automotive in Saginaw at one of our plants in Saginaw.

They caught it pretty quick. Not uncommon to hear of recalls, by any automotive manufacturer.
