GM Produces Three Millionth Vehicle with XM Satellite Radio

General Motors Produces Three Millionth Vehicle with XM Satellite Radio

DETROIT and WASHINGTON, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- General Motors announced today it has produced more than three million vehicles with factory- installed XM satellite radios.

XM is the exclusive satellite radio partner of GM, which offers more than 50 vehicle models that feature XM Satellite Radio. In model-year 2006, nearly 90 percent of GM's U.S. retail models will offer factory-installed XM satellite radios as either an option or as standard equipment.
GM was the world's first automaker to offer satellite radio and remains the industry leader in offering factory-installed satellite radio to its customers. GM began offering XM Satellite Radio in select Cadillac models in November 2001, the same month that XM launched its service nationwide.
"We've made XM Satellite Radio available across the breadth of GM's U.S. portfolio because our customers tell us they highly value the superior-quality programming it provides," said Mark LaNeve, GM North America Vice President Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing.
"This is the latest milestone in an extraordinary partnership between GM and XM," said Hugh Panero, President and CEO of XM Satellite Radio. "Being the exclusive satellite radio partner of the world's largest automaker has been a key element of XM's success to date. We look forward to even greater success as GM continues to offer XM across its vast model line-up."

Does anyone know how much of XM corp. is owned by GM and how much of the $12.95 monthly XM fee gets paid over to GM? Together with OnStar, this should be a tidy profit center for GM.

Ming - If only XM worked on planet Irata <-- Avatar reference for those not in the know

I bought a Sirius Sportster for my Tahoe - Sat Radio is great - however, I recommend a portable unit so you can change cars or listen at home

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what vehicle it was installed on?
I didn't bother reading the article so if the answer is there, please forgive me.

I would not have bought a XM radio on my own, but my truck came with it and a three month trial. I loved it so much I have two units. I love XM.

I love having XM....since getting it a few months ago for my car, I wont do without it. Before it I just listened to CD's since I was sick of listening to local radio.

Re: GM Produces Three Millionth Vehicle with XM Satellite Radio

XM radio is a great thing. My dads trailblazer came with it. We bought it new from the dealer lot. It was not something we wanted but since then i wish i got it with my monte carlo. Long Island stations have gone to crap, even K-Rock is starting to play rap. But one thing is that XM is really not family oriented. My dad got really upset when i stopped at a station that was cursing pretty loud, really doesnt want my little sister to be playing with it.

But satillite radio is in its infancy. My uncle told me that its like what cable was back when it came out. You paid for it and you got drugs, sex, vilence, and foul language. Then as more people began to have it, it died down and became more mainstream. And went back to the begining, you had to pay more for the extreme stuff.

You can get certain channels blocked from your radio by calling customer service. Other than that, channels featuring profane language have "xL" at the end of their name.
