A General Motors powertrain plant in the Detroit suburb of Romulus, Mich., was evacuated for a short time this morning after a worker threatened to shoot himself with what turned out to be a starter pistol.
GM spokesman Bill Grutz said the incident began around 6 a.m., soon after the start of the first shift. About 575 employees were evacuated.
Plant officials called the police, who took the man into custody. Work resumed at about 7:15 a.m. and no injuries were reported, Grutz said.
