GM's $1 billion investment plan to take toll on American Axle
By Dustin Walsh

DETROIT -- General Motors' plan to invest $1 billion into U.S. factories and add thousands of jobs comes at the expense of one Detroit supplier.

American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. is losing part of its business to supply GM's next-generation full-size pickup trucks and SUVs, as GM said it is moving some axle production in-house. The move will create 450 new jobs for GM.

Chris Son, spokesman for American Axle, said the supplier will be reduced to 65 percent of the axle supply for the program, down from 100 percent today.

Pure speculation here but anyone else think this could signal that an independent rear setup is (finally) coming GM's full size SUVs? Maybe just wishful thinking, but I can't help but think they plan sonething different than the axles they've been buying for years.
