GM Lowers Incentives

Link: http://gmbuypower.com/viewCurrentOff...e.bp?zip=11706

With the (stunning) exception of 2005/6 SUV models, GM has lowered incentives on most of its' models.

Need a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban?
Need $ 10,500 cash back?*
See your Chevy dealer today!

This new incentive plan is a surprise.

If you watched television last night, you saw a GM commercial for the new Tahoe. They were on every show! They ended with the following: "The new Chevy Tahoe - Coming January 10th!"

With the increased GMT800 rebates - It makes me think a price cut is coming on the GMT900s. With an intro date of 01/10, we should get pricing for the new Tahoe and Yukon any day.

This new incentive program is a mystery. I wonder what GM is up to?

--------------------------------------------------
*2005 Cash Rebate: $8000. GM Card Max: $2500. Total = $ 10,500.
2006 Cash Rebate: $5500. GM Card Max: 3500. Total = $9000.

In what way?

Isn't January a slow month usually?

They've said the new Tahoes,et al, were going to be Value Priced, but we've seen how that's gone before. They need a significant price cut to make people take notice, like they did with the DTS. This "MSRP is $300 lower, plus we'll throw in the floor mats" is not gonna cut it.

Re: GM Lowers Incentives

If they can cut $10,000 off of anything, then the MSRP is much too high. Might as well throw in an Aveo while they're at it.

Seriously, though, until I get the impression that GM has truly made the effort to value price their cars and trucks across all brands (well at least the ones I'm interested in), and I can use my maximum GM card earnings, I'm not going to go near a GM dealership.

Well, that's not exactly true, I'll still go to look, but not buy unless the dealer has an unrelated sale of their own. I'd be more impressed with some "free" dealer accessory add-ons like custom wheels and a tint-job than another 1000 bucks off MSRP that everyone who buys that GM car is getting along with me.

Because when everyone gets that extra 1000 off MSRP, it only means GM is lowering the true price of the vehicle, and its resale value as well. It's not like when I get GM sponsored $8000 off a Suburban that I retain more of the MSRP than people who come after me. It just means the poor guy who got $5000 off MSRP a month before got screwed.

Excellent idea...GM should really try implementing that.

I would go for it. Even if GM had some kind of secret incentive deal where it gave a 500-1000 dollar allowance to dealers to accessorize their cars -- at least not all would be accessorized the same way, and the MSRP wouldn't take a hit.

FYI Saturn has programs that go until the end of January. If you want to see what may happen after Jan 10th, then compare Saturn current rebates vs Dec 2005.

Even if the MSRP is the same there is a heck of a lot more content and technology in the new truck which is also part of GM's Value Pricing plan. I'm sure that the GMT-900's cost GM more to make than the GMT-800's.

I look every day for pricing at various corporate sources - they're keeping that info very tight. We have 2 built and on the way, but cannot pull up invoices for them yet. Looking at our locater some dealers in IN already have theirs - no pricing there either.

Your avatars sometimes give me nightmares.

On January 11th the only change will probably be the addition of the 2007 Tahoe to the incentive list. Even if it has no rebate and no rate support it requires an incentive change. I'm betting that it'll be $1,000 or 3.9/4.9/5.9/7.9 - if even that.

They may also move all the 05 models from Consumer Cash to Dealer Cash and pull any rate support. It's usually around this time of year that they do this.

I hear you Slim,

How are they going to spin: GMT800 = $30,000 and GMT900 = $40,000 but we now have dual lighted visor mirrors in all trim levels as "Value".

P.S. Yes, I'm still upset my loaded 2001 Silverado LS didn't even have a drivers side visor mirror.

Re: GM Lowers Incentives

So does anyone know if GM value priced the short lived 2006 tahoe? Maybe they were getting an idea of how much they could lower the prices. I'm really hoping they lower them by a couple thousand.

You had two months. Not to mention most of the summer. The Cobalt is a great car and worth every penny they ask for it.People complain about incentives, they take them away and you still complain. Chevy has a good product line up and more on the way. It is time they stop giving cars away.
