With bankruptcy now over three years in the rear-view mirror, New GM's expansion is bearing fruit. The third quarter of the year saw many pivotal all-new products launch and/or unveiled that will allow an increase in sales on the global scale.
Riding on the back of car sales, U.S. sales rose 3.4-% from the beginning of the year. All-new cars such as the Buick Verano, Chevy Cruze and Sonic allowed for the growth. September saw the first month of sales for the all-new Cadillac ATS, which is set to launch in Europe and China within the next few months.
European sales continue to hurt as sales are down 12.5-% through the year. This has resulted in a loss of .5-% market share. The one bright spot in sales is that of Chevrolet, which has seen sales rise 4.1-%. The Opel Adam and Mokka saw their first sales during the third quarter with the latter off to a hot start in September.
South American sales are rather stagnate as many vehicles turned over to all-new versions in the quarter or are about to. The Chevy Spin launched sales to replace the Meriva and Zafira. The Spin will also launch into other markets including Indonesia. The all-new Onix is currently launching and will replace Celta. The all-new Colorado has seen significant increases over the last model and is threatening the Toyota Hilux for dominance in the region. The Trailblazer saw limited initial sales in Brazil ahead of its full launch.
In Asia, the all-new Trailblazer also started sales in Thailand on its way to being offered throughout the region, or as the Holden Colorado7. GM has seen sales rise 10 percent so far this year in China riding on the back of Wuling commercial vans and trucks. In the last month of September, the Chevy Spark I started its switch to the Baojun Lechi model in China as GM starts to expand the brand.
The brief big news out of Australia was the launch of Opel. As of now, the Corsa, Astra, and Insignia have launched with undoubtedly more to come.
Perhaps the most interesting news out of the quarter is that the Wuling Sunshine fell to third place in GM's sales behind the Chevy Cruze and Chevy Silverado/ Cheyenne.
Markets included in this quarter were Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Venezuela, and Vietnam.
