GM Global Sales for the Third Quarter of 2012

    Several Important Launches Mark Quarter

    Our Own Nsap's ATS

With bankruptcy now over three years in the rear-view mirror, New GM's expansion is bearing fruit. The third quarter of the year saw many pivotal all-new products launch and/or unveiled that will allow an increase in sales on the global scale.

Riding on the back of car sales, U.S. sales rose 3.4-% from the beginning of the year. All-new cars such as the Buick Verano, Chevy Cruze and Sonic allowed for the growth. September saw the first month of sales for the all-new Cadillac ATS, which is set to launch in Europe and China within the next few months.

European sales continue to hurt as sales are down 12.5-% through the year. This has resulted in a loss of .5-% market share. The one bright spot in sales is that of Chevrolet, which has seen sales rise 4.1-%. The Opel Adam and Mokka saw their first sales during the third quarter with the latter off to a hot start in September.

South American sales are rather stagnate as many vehicles turned over to all-new versions in the quarter or are about to. The Chevy Spin launched sales to replace the Meriva and Zafira. The Spin will also launch into other markets including Indonesia. The all-new Onix is currently launching and will replace Celta. The all-new Colorado has seen significant increases over the last model and is threatening the Toyota Hilux for dominance in the region. The Trailblazer saw limited initial sales in Brazil ahead of its full launch.

In Asia, the all-new Trailblazer also started sales in Thailand on its way to being offered throughout the region, or as the Holden Colorado7. GM has seen sales rise 10 percent so far this year in China riding on the back of Wuling commercial vans and trucks. In the last month of September, the Chevy Spark I started its switch to the Baojun Lechi model in China as GM starts to expand the brand.

The brief big news out of Australia was the launch of Opel. As of now, the Corsa, Astra, and Insignia have launched with undoubtedly more to come.

Perhaps the most interesting news out of the quarter is that the Wuling Sunshine fell to third place in GM's sales behind the Chevy Cruze and Chevy Silverado/ Cheyenne.

The 2014 Silverado should allow the model to keep its position in second

Markets included in this quarter were Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Venezuela, and Vietnam. Note that sales are only for the third quarter and not for the year. If you have any sales data to add, please contact me. Big thank you to Best Selling Cars for adding markets to the list. Sales numbers are only for third quarter and not year-to-date.

US Buick sales look dismal, looks like anything that isn't a brand new model isn't performing as expected.

I would say the Regal sales are awful, but the rest of the lineup is doing ok.

Bankruptcy? Walking away from the 169 billiondollars they owed, screwing taxpayers out of a minimum of 25 billion dollars, screwing over 20,000 pensioners retirement (minimum), and asking the president to toss out 200+ years of contract law then taking an unconstitutional taxpayer bailout is hardly "bankruptcy."

Here is the truth, minus the gm goggles - GM is staring another "bankruptcy" in the face unless it learns from what it did wrong before - they are repeatedly all the same mistakes they made before. It is only a matter of time.

I know everyone here likes to only hear pro-GM propaganda, but I can only tell it one way. Truthfully and how I see it.

Regal sales are pretty horrible in Canada as well. Sales are down about 40% compared to last year. 2011 volume was 2846 while 2012 year to date is 1672 (should be ~1800 at year end.) Lacrosse sales are only down about 20% which is not too bad. The new Verano is the saving-grace of the brand. The Verano is at 4804 year to date which is almost 40% of Buick sales in Canada.

Cadillac is really taking a beating up here in Canada. Cadillac only has about 6,000 YTD while MB and BMW are approximately 30,000 YTD. Audi is about 18,500. Acura is about 15,000. Lexus is about 14,000 while Infiniti is at 7,500. Lincoln is worse than Cadillac but only by ~200 sales. The only brands/groups with lower sales than Cadillac is Jaguar/Land Rover at 4,400 and Volvo at 5,300.

Why, he is just stating it as he see's it. Are there any inaccuracies in the first paragraph. The second paragraph is his opinion, as to if they will go BK again.

Do you realize how much revenue the government would've lost if they didn't bail out GM? And add to that the welfare, unemployment, etc that the government would've had to pay to these unemployed people? I never hear anyone talking about this as if the US Government is a business and perhaps the bailout made sense from that perspective.

As an FYI, I don't feel like arguing about a dead issue at any great length, so I may not reply to any angry responses.
