By Monica Link
Automotive News / November 01, 2004

General Motors vehicles landed the most spots among 38 cars, trucks and SUVs named in the Consumer's Digest 2005 lists of automotive "best buys." The consumer magazine's annual list was released Monday.

The magazine named vehicles in eight categories: small, family, sporty and luxury cars, and trucks, vans, compact and midsize SUVs, and full size and luxury SUVs.

The vehicles named are:

Small cars: Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Mazda3, Pontiac Vibe, Scion xB and Toyota Matrix.

Family car: Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Honda Accord, Mazda6, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry and Solara.

Sporty cars: Infiniti G35, Mazda RX-8, Mini Cooper, Volkswagen GTI and Volvo's S60R and V70R.

Trucks: Chevrolet Avalanche, Ford F-150 and Nissan Titan.

Vans: Chrysler's Town & Country, Dodge's Caravan, Honda's Odyssey and Nissan's Quest.

Compact and midsize SUVs: Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Escape, Honda Pilot, Mazda Tribute, Mercury Mariner and Toyota Highlander.

Luxury and full-size SUVs: Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL and Volkswagen Touareg.

yea, I would have that either the Caddy CTS or SRX would have made it.

Great news though!

Congrats and kudos to everyone at GM involved!

The Cadillacs have little to no rebates. All these are a best buy because the cars are such a good value with all the rebates!

It's good press for GM though.

I'd be a little bit more interested in Mazda - for such a relatively small carmaker (yes I know 33.6% is owned by F*rd) to have four spots in this is pretty cool...

GM is something on the order of 100,000 times larger...

Very odd there is no Caddy?

Great news on the Malibu and Maxx. That is exactly what GM needs to revive the midsize cars market for them.

Oh Boy
Consumer Digest
Seriously Good work, I know some people actually base their purchase on the opinions from CD.

I know GM lovers have to practice fuzzy math to make things look rosey, but by that math, Ford had ten vehicles in the listing as well.
Isn't it funny how ford claims the F150 is the best selling truck time and time again, but many years when you add the GMC to the Chevy it isn't so. This happens for a multitude of GM cars and trucks. Now laser says they are the same vehicle. Will he say that when the sales figures come out? Which is it Laser? Can't have it both ways. What will he say when the Mailbu+Maxx outsell the 500? Same car or different?

Laser, sometimes you spin better than Karl Rove.

Great news because last time i went to a toyota dealership they had the C/D's report on display. Now theres hardly any on their list's. Haha what you gonna display now. Great marketing tool for GM.
