Re: GM Extends The 72 Hour Sale Through July 7th
I believe they were earnest in their desire to do so, but nobody predicted the events between late 2006 and now. We would still be a year away from a product release if they had gotten it perfect.

Re: GM Extends The 72 Hour Sale Through July 7th
This is great for everyone right now (dealers, GM, customer) but in 3 - 4 years when these buyers want to unload for a new model they will probably still be upside down on the trade.

Re: GM Extends The 72 Hour Sale Through July 7th
That depends on if they are upside going in on the trade in, which means they shouldn't be at a dealership anyway. Down payment and depreciation are factors as well.

Re: GM Extends The 72 Hour Sale Through July 7th
It's too bad that the only incentive they appear to have on the 08 CTS is 0% for 36 months. The payments would be too large for me, or I'd have to deplete my savings too far, to swing that.
Maybe I'll just sit tight a bit longer - there are still plenty of '08s to go around. |

Re: GM Extends The 72 Hour Sale Through July 7th
There are some drama queens on this board. This is the same sale they ran in June/July 2006, it is a big one and does pull in traffic. It is not a wholesale change in strategy. That sale ran over the 4th as well.
You may disagree with the strategy of periodic sales, but it is not out of the ordinary. |

Re: GM Extends The 72 Hour Sale Through July 7th
Unfortunately it could be a matter of time before they do. Ford just announced "Employee Pricing" again. If GM and Chrysler are forced to follow it will hurt not only their profit margins but it will kill resale values once again.....

Re: GM Extends The 72 Hour Sale Through July 7th
We've had this sale before. No big deal. What's interesting is we've had 0% for 60 months for 3 weeks prior to this sale. So apparently 72 months is the magic number to get people interested. Our supply of Aura's is almost gone. I think GM's numbers for June wont be as bad as expected.

Whatever happened to "Total Value Pricing" or whatever it was that ended the "Employee Discount" bonanza? GM needs to get to the point that their prices are predictable and stable - or else people will be forever expecting more and more giveaways and resale values will continue to tank. Why buy now for 0 for 72 when you might be able to buy later for 0 for 84 PLUS $3000 bonus cash PLUS $1000 loyalty cash PLUS $1000 "Day that ends in Y" cash? |

This is what happens when you live by number of sales/market share vice profits. GM is sacrificing long-term profits just to not look so bad when the June '08 sales numbers are posted later today. |

This is what happens when the economy completley tanks. Would you rather GM not offer any incentives so they can have cars rot on the lot?GM and all the others need to move metal in today's economy and adjust output accordingly. If turns out to be an incentive war then it is what it is---everybody is hurting for sales and it isn't going to get any easier. |
