Re: GM Dominates "Lightning Lap" 2008

Heh GM's dominated all the lightning laps. It's almost taken top honors in the last two and they had to throw in a mosler and a lightweight race ready ferrari to show that there is SOMETHING out there faster than the Corvette. At least until they test the ZR1 next year.

All 4 cylinders and most 6 cylinders sound like crap at WOT imo. It's not a v8. And I haven't sat it in, but the SS interior looks a good bit better than the standard one. You won't get a 350z for $22k and a MS3 doesn't get 22/30.

My ideal ride would be a Z51 LS3 vette, but for its price range, the Cobalt SS is pretty much the best out there.

Thinking of replacing my 07' with a 09' I went and test drove one. Having a friend with a 350Z the balts interior holds up very well against other coupes out there. I especially like the optional digital dash hawk they have available. It gives you the same info and alittle more except for 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

I own an 09 cobalt ss and I can vouch it is a very quick car,i've been a Chevrolet tech for 18 years and have driven everything thing to come out of Chevys stable. It handles alot like a Z06 as you feel everything on the road but youd better hang on to the wheel when you let it rip since it can yank it right out of your hands.

Well the Mosler is powered by an LS7 tuned to 550hp and only weighs 2500lbs. Much of Corvette's awesome comes from the small block. Mosler can just buy LS9's from GM and get 700hp with just an ECU tune

Nissan's VQ sounds like nails on a chalkboard to me. The only 6's I can think of that sound good at WOT are the Vortec 4300, 3800 S/C, and Supra 2JZ-GTE.

Heh yeah I know but I figured most people out there, even on this site, had probably never heard of the Mosler. Still the fastest Lightning Lap was still ran with the Z06 motor, so GM is still da WINNAH!!!!

Uhhh....it gained 36 HP.

2007 had 400 HP LS2 V8. 2008 has LS3 with 436 HP (when optioned with dual-mode exhaust). For 2008 the shift linkage on the manual transmissions was revised to provide smoother action and the steering was tweaked to be more responsive.

I care about performance and I very much am worried about our use of fossil fuels.

Tweeked? All Corvettes get the ZR1's brand new variable rate steering rack, giving much better steering feel. So far every test has the 09 Z06 faster then 08.

I cannot believe that you actually think the boxy 4-door EVO sedan looks better than the SS. The other two I can understand, but the EVO? Come on. If that car did not have the engine it does, no one would think twice about it. And have you ever heard an LNF and an MS3 run at WOT? Obviously not, because they sound damn-near identical. The only 4-banger I would say sounds better than a Cobalt SS hands-down is a Suby.
