GM does platform sharing right

From Autoweek:

"Except for the identical door handles, it's hard to believe the 9-3 shares much of its underpinnings with the Chevy Malibu and Saturn Aura. As much as that's a good sign for Chevy and Saturn, it's equally good that General Motors has been able to take one chassis and make it into three distinctly different models. . . ."

Meh. Those people are blind. And the 9-3 isn't on the same platform. It's on a heavily modified version of the same platform. And the door handles are actually a step downward for Saab. And what happened to the G6?

The less it's mentioned, the better.

The buying public and auto journalists do not agree with you. When you are a fan it ieasy to pick apart something and find its faults. However everything else is invisible to those signing on the line.

Good Point.

I have a hard time believing that this MGESCURO is a GM fan, he bashes them more than any GM hater I have ever known. Some people can never be happy.

This is the same media that believes the Aura and the Vectra are the same car!!!
They're not the same car!!

Don't even try to convince me the 9-3 and Aura/Malibu/G6 are "identical." They're soooo not even in the same ballpark.

And we all know that there are 4 different Epsilons -- none of which are compatible with each other!
-- Opel Epsilon
-- Saab Epsilon
-- Alfa Epsilon
-- North American Epsilon (SWB and LWB)

You can't have it both ways. First you complain about them sharing platforms. Then you complain about them being too different?

I agree as well. I have rarely, if at all, read a positive comment.

Re: GM does platform sharing right

I can't believe some of you guys are defending misinformation.

In this case, the misinformation is in GM's favor, but it's still misinformation.

Re: GM does platform sharing right

MGESCURO has high standards and is blunt. Nothing wrong with either thing. He is definately not a GM basher.

The differences are significant enough between these platforms of the same name to keep navigation out of Malibu, Aura, and G6.

Re: GM does platform sharing right

Actually, he's right. The current Saab 9-3 is on the short wheelbase Epsilon platform. The current Malibu and Aura are on the long wheelbase Epsilon.
But don't tell them that.

Re: GM does platform sharing right

Better example of platform sharing:

Ford C1 (Euro Focus, C-Max, Volvo C30/S40/V50/C70, Mazda3, Mazda5) begets Ford EUCD (Ford S-Max, Galaxy, Mondeo, Land Rover LR2, Volvo V70/S80).
