GM Chief sees global sales rising this year

GM chief sees global sales increasing this year
By John D. Stoll
Last Update: 6:27 AM ET Mar 6, 2007

GENEVA (MarketWatch)
Wagoner, speaking to reporters during a Geneva auto show roundtable, said global industry sales are headed to 70 million in 2007, which would mark a record.
He said the company's own sales, which topped 9 million in 2006, "should grow" as well, but stopped short of predicting a second-straight year of record revenue in 2007. He noted that "a huge amount of growth (is) where the revenue per unit is low."
GM's sales momentum is expected to come in countries such as China, Russia and other emerging markets where vehicles typically sell for less than they do in the U.S. or Western Europe. Wagoner did say GM's revenues will eventually climb past the 2006 level, which has yet to be disclosed by the company. "Over time, I think it's going to go up," he said.

If anyone wants to buy some GM stock at a relatively low price, this is probably your last chance. After 2007, the General won't be looking back.

Unless we slip into a recession - but then all automotive stocks would take a hit. I just wish I had purchased GM stock a year ago...

lets hope so, 75+ years as the World's Number ONE Automaker! Keep it up GM and fend off toyhoeta I believe in you! Its great to be a GM enthusiast irreguardless of past missteps or an image that matches the company in 1985 instead of 2007 (for all brands). GM makes some of the best vehicles in the world and I'm proud to own some of them and have family work there.

If you're referring to investing in a short-term potential, you may have a point. But I continue to believe that automotive stocks are a poor choice for long-term investments for retirement, with or without dividends. And I'm skeptical of people with "play money" who believe they can beat the market or who believe that they can consistently beat the pro's who do this on a daily basis.

Back on topic, I'd love to see GM increase sales profitably.

CobaltSScrazy (I would not be surprised if this post was deleted)

To make it relevant, how many vehicles is GM predicted to sell? Last year it was around 9.2 million global right?

Close. About 9.1 million

http://www.gm.com/company/corp_info/profiles/

. In 2006, 9.1 million GM cars and trucks were sold globally under the following brands: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, HUMMER, Opel, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn and Vauxhall.

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/0...usiness/toyota

Toyota's production came in at 9.018 while GM produced around 9.18 million.

Last month, Toyota said is 2006 output was 9.018 million vehicles, while GM produced 9.18 million vehicles worldwide

Many critics underestimate the global sales increases GM can realize in the next few years.

By tapping into the GMDAT capacity and proximity to Asian and Russian markets GM can double or triple Chevrolet sales in Europe, Asia, Russia and India.

GM has just started to branch out the Pontiac, GMC and Cadillac brands on a scale close to Chevrolet and Buick can build on success in China to enter new markets such as India, Russia or even South America.

If GM ever gets serious about making SAAB their answer to Audi and give it a unique lineup it could also do well.

Re: GM Chief sees global sales rising this year

Awesome! A global rising of GM sales is always great. This should chase Toyota for the competition of sales war for the year of 2007.
