GM Card Redemption Changes/Decreases For MY'09

I was helping a friend purchase a (GM) vehicle this morning and needed a GM Card question answered.

The associate who helped me also gave me the maximum* redemption limit changes for MY09.

All redemption amounts remain the same as MY08 with the following exceptions:

2009 Chevrolet Traverse: $ 1,000 (New vehicle)
2009 Chevrolet Impala: $ 1,500 (Decrease of $500.00)
2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer: $ 2,000 (Decrease of $500.00)
2009 Buick LaCrosse: $ 1,500 (Decrease of $500.00)
2009 Buick Lucerne: $ 1,500 (Decrease of $500.00)
2009 GMC Envoy: $ 2,000.00 (Decrease of $500.00)
2009 Hummer H3T $ 1,500 (New vehicle)

The G.D. GM Card program has been a friggin joke for 5 years now! Note to all, redeem what you have, take out scissors, never use again. Its a gimmick that does nothing but pi// customers off! They do not realize what can be used with GM Discount, why I can only use so much, anything! They do not train customers who want to use the earnings, leaving it to dealers to apologize. All it does is pi// them off.

There's more on the way - The GM SmartBuy program ends October 1st.

I stopped using my GM Card for reasons like this. I feel building up dollars on it is useless. They probably won't let you use it on the new Camaro anyway.

Looks like I will stop adding money to my card when we hit the $2000 mark. That will probably be more than we could use in a couple of years for an Enclave.

I keep my extended family card for special offers, such as top offs on earnings.

Re: GM Card Redemption Changes For MY09

I am cancelling my GM card tomorrow. Cutting lease rates and GM reward allowances was the last straw. No wonder GM is in the toilet.

Re: GM Card Redemption Changes/Decreases For MY'09

One of the things that made the Impala so appealing to me were the unusually good redemptions for a GM car with decent fuel economy....

Eh, I use another points card now. Bye-bye GM card. Maybe I'll redeem my points some day, but it won't be any time soon with these decreases. The GM Card stinks if you use the card a lot for purchases and rack up points, unless you're the type who buys a new f/s SUV every 4 years. Unless you're looking to get a thirsty and/or expensive vehicle, it's useless ("We'll top it off so you can buy a Yukon!!") - and it has been to me for several years now.

Re: GM Card Redemption Changes/Decreases For MY'09

I stopped using my GM card at the end of 2007. I've accumulated over $4000 in rebates, and with today's limits there's certainly no need to earn any more. My last vehicle was a 2004 GMC Yukon that I leased for 4 years, and the GM card allowance at the time was $2000 + a bonus of $750, which helped a lot with the payment. This past March, I leased a 2008 Ford Expedition for 3 years (same payment I had on my 4 year Yukon lease since I get the A/Z-plan employee/retiree pricing thanks to my grandfather sweating for 30 years in the glass factory at the Rouge).

If there's no decent redemption allowances on any desirable 2011 GM models, I guess I'll just kiss those GM Card rebates goodbye as they start to expire due to age.
