GM Canada sales in May up 2.2% from year ago; Chrysler up 4.8%, Ford up 9.4%
TORONTO (CP) - All the major automakers posted sales increases in Canada last month as the solid economy powered a spring bloom of better than 10 per cent above the industry's year-ago pace.
General Motors of Canada said Friday its May sales were up 2.2 per cent from a year ago, while Chrysler posted a 4.8 per cent gain and Ford advanced 9.4 per cent. Toyota and Honda, meanwhile, had their best sales month ever, up 5.1 per cent and 18 per cent respectively. Overall sales were 185,471 in May, up 10.3 per cent from a year earlier, according to the industry data compilation by DesRosiers Automotive Consultants. Despite high gasoline prices, light trucks - pickups, minivans and sport utility vehicles - provided much of the sales vigour, though the carmakers stressed the relative fuel-efficiency of many of their offerings in these segments. Deliveries of light trucks rose 15.1 per cent to 82,915 while car sales were up 6.6 per cent to 102,556, according to the DesRosiers tally. Continue Article |

Chrysler was doing a program that paid the first three months payments, first three months free gas and first three months maintenance free. All that and they only managed 4%.

Awesome figures for the trucks despite gas prices.
