GM Announces $116 Million Investment

St. Catharines, Ontario (May 11, 2004) - General Motors of Canada announced a $116© million investment for the GM St. Catharines Engine Plant to manufacture key components for the all-new 6-speed front-wheel-drive automatic transmission.

The St. Catharines Engine Plant will use an innovative gear grinding technology that has not been used in high-volume automotive applications, to produce the new gear set that is assembled in the new 2007 model year transmission. The new investment will create approximately 100 new jobs in the St. Catharines facility. Over the past decade, General Motors has invested more than $6 billion in its Canadian operations, building on its commitment to high-tech manufacturing and jobs in Canada.

Allen Green, General Motors of Canada Vice President of Personnel and Operations said, "With the commitment and skills from the St. Catharines workforce and the CAW union, the St. Catharines plant has competitively earned this new business with their outstanding excellence and quality in manufacturing."
