GM 72 Hour Sale Goes On - With A Twist: A Trade Is Now Required

Link: http://www.chevrolet.com/currentoffe....jsp?zip=10019

GM seems to be continuing the successful 72 Hour Sale with a new program this morning. However, to qualify for the incentive, you must trade in any 1999 or newer vehicle. It is really interesting to note - that for the first time I am aware of - you need to trade-in a vehicle to get bonus cash.

0% APR for 72 months for qualified buyers

0% APR for 72 months for qualified buyers

2008 Chevrolet Avalanche when you trade in ANY 1999 or newer vehicle.

$15160 MSRP
-$500 Bonus Cash
-$1000 Customer Cash

2008 Chevrolet Colorado PickUp Extended Cab 2WD 1LS when you trade in ANY 1999 or newer vehicle

Re: GM 72 Hour Sale Goes On - With A Twist: A Trade Is Now Required

This is very strange.

I will assume that a customer looking at a SUV or pickup may also currently own one. Many GM dealers are not taking SUVs and/or pickups as trades - Will this new program force them to do so? I looked at a 2008 Suburban last month, and the dealer would not even quote me on my trade - a GMC Yukon XL.

Anyone have additional information on this program?

wicked wierd.

won't this still fill dealer lots with used cars now? unless maybe they are easier to sell...though I doubt any car is easy to sell these days.

Is the insurance cheaper to keep a used car on the lot than a new one?

sadly, gm hasn't even bothered to post the new incentive programs in dealerworld yet.......... you know we don't need em yet.......... no hurry........... the other programs just ended yesterday.......... we don't need to know for advertising............ we don't need to know for customers who are in my store this morning............ i'm just about tired of fooling with GM. don't believe i'm going to stick around and go down with the ship. will you guys still like me if i'm managing at a toyota store?? bet they know what programs they have in place this morning!!!

Re: GM 72 Hour Sale Goes On - With A Twist: A Trade Is Now Required

Getting tired of the 99-or-newer cash programs that GM has been using a lot this year. I have a '98 MY car that I bought (new) in mid-99, but that doesn't count. The message this type of thing sends is that you aren't loyal to GM if you keep their cars for a long time, only if you buy lots of cars are you really a loyal GM buyer.

This is the dumbest sales gimmick I ever heard. Not every one has a newer car our even a car to trade. Great way to limit your sales.

Re: GM 72 Hour Sale Goes On - With A Twist: A Trade Is Now Required

Well, let GM struggle then. This is so dumb. If I finance a car through a bank, GM makes no more money on the deal. They might as well have given me a zero percent loan. So, why put restrictions on a) which car I can buy during this promotion, and b) make me trade in my daily driver? I want to add a new car to my fleet. But, other manufacturers will likely beat GM to the incentive punch that I'm looking for.

Great.....we can sell new product (that is hard sell now anyway) to someone IF they have a trade and we get welded to old POS trucks that.........guess what.........no one wants!!!!
Talk about throwing the Dealers under the bus

Guess they don't want to sell cars.

I'd love to be in the room when junk like this is cooked up--is it like those funny cable commercials where they're discussing raising prices & cutting service to grow the business?

Re: GM 72 Hour Sale Goes On - With A Twist: A Trade Is Now Required

The only benefit I see t this is IF the trades are smallish cars in decent shape.
Seems like that is what most people are looking for . (around here anyway)

Sometimes I wonder if it isn't Laneve that should be shown the door, instead of Rick and associates. I think he's in over his head.

A wise old man once told me that "we each rise to our own level of incompetency". (We all get promoted one too many times.)
